Ford states that they will only commit to supporting phones built prior to the announcement date of the 2011 Lincoln. They suggest I buy an older phone. My iPhone 4 was announced and produced at the same time as the 2011 announcement. Lincoln lists the iPhone as compatible on their website. Dealer assured me the phone was supported.

I guess I'm gonna havetrade in mynew car cause my new car isn't compatible with my phone. Kind of like that guy who was posting about how his new bmwwouldn't link with his garage door opener. Why in the heck do we buy vehicles? So we can "talk on them" or they can open our garage doors? What's the world coming to?

I did some research..

..and all I can find anywhere online is the only phones supported by Ford in 2011 are Blackberries and Androids. Why, I do not know but most likely your complaint should be against Steve Jobs and not Ford. I did find this info online and I will quote..

"Interestingly, the iPhone will not be able to connect wirelessly via Bluetooth to SYNC but will instead need to be plugged in via USB. Not a huge deal but still a bit of a pain. Blame it on Apple. Its better than nothing though right?"

I would imagine if Ford could fix this they would since the iphones are very popular, but Ford builds cars, not cell phones. So if there is nothing Ford can do, your choices are again... get another car, get another phone, or use the iphone via USB and move on with life until/if they find a fix for the iphone.

What you want them to do..and what they can or will do..

...is two different things. Either the sync in your car supports an iphone 4 , or it does not. If it does not...do you have anything in writing that states it is guaranteed to. if so..you have a case. If not..go buy a 3g..you can get them for 50 bucks these days.

If you really believe there is a defect in your vehicle..go to a dealer...ask to sit in the same model Lincoln..and see if your phone pairs up.

iPhone 4 works on many 2011 Lincoln and Ford cars and trucks

The iPhone 4 works on 2011 Ford Focus and Lincoln MDX. It worked fine on my Ford Flex. It works on 2009 Cadillac CTS. It works on 2010 Audi A6. These I have tested. Ford told me in an email that they supported the iPhone 4. The recently release an App called Destinations which is certified for the iPhone 4. The App connects to the Sync system.

It's pretty simple to me. They told me it worked. It works on tons of their products. They have released App's for the iPhone 4. That means they should fix my car!

So get an older phone...

...or a different car or hands free system. It is not Fords fault that Apple keeps changing versions of Bluetooth. You state your iphone was announced at the "same time" as the 2011 announcement but they only commit to supporting phones built "prior" to the announcement. So that is why. What do you expect Ford or the dealer to do?

I guess if the dealer assured you the phone was supported and it is not and they won't pay for another phone or hands free system...then the dealer lied to you or told you whatever it took to sell the vehicle and get you on your way. No shock there. I would be more shocked to read a report that a dealer ever told the truth but that is not going to happen in the real world. Now if there is anything from the dealer in writing that "guarantees" your phone would be supported, that is another story.
