Below is the history of my Forest River Lexington 270SF, keep in mind it was purchased less then a year ago and experienced my main problem the second day that I owned the RV. "The fuel tank will not always fill up" It will only register 3/4 full and currently still has the problem, the dealer has rerouted the hoses twice, blown out the vacuum line twice, cut the existing filler spout and move it up an inch, at the request from Forest River warranty division; In conclusion Forest River will only fix the unit at their facilities because they do not trust that any one else could facilitate a fix.

My first option that was offered to me was to drive the unit to them, but when I itemized the cost for taking this trip it was not feasible to them, this cost included fuel, mileage and expenses for an unplanned trip.

This was not accepted by Forest River, the only option reasonable to them was hiring a bonded driver to pickup the unit and deliver it to them for repairs and back to me and giving me $1000.00 for the depreciation and mileage.

I did not find this acceptable since I own the unit and do not feel that I should endure any more ware and tare of the unit and depreciation. If you look at all I have had to do for the last 10 month it is more then just $1000.00 in time and work.

This has been my experience with a New Forest River RV in the past 10 month, 7 visits to the RV Outlet Mall for services stated above and 4 of them have been for extended periods of time (One Month at a time) and the others for two weeks or more.

On average the RV has been in for 5 months of the 10 months I have owned it.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Now, I'm not sure what your RV background is, but those complaints don't seem too bad for what you got and what you paid.

High-end bus conversions and specialty chassis coaches like blue bird and provost probably do a complete check and shake-down before they are delivered to the customer.

These cheaper units don't get that. I know you still pay as much as some cheap homes for them. Unfortunately, this is pretty much what you should expect in a mass-produced coach.

The problem with getting service is that good service is hard to find. The company may charge $75 an hour, maybe more, but the technician is only getting $20 or less. In addition, he or she may have a long list of coaches to do. In other words, your problems are expected to be fixes quick and cheap.

Instead of quick and cheap, you need to find slow and careful. That's not so easy to do these days. That's why I fix my own stuff.

Get the parts like the remote and the table. Then take it someplace else to have it repaired. See if the manufacturer will cover the cost of the work.

I'll be honest with you, you need to find everything wrong before you buy. I climb on top, underneath, and check everything. Most of the time I'm buying used, so I can put propane in the tank and work the appliances too.

Once you're an owner, they tend to forget your name. That's how the vehicle business tends to work.

At least the manufacturer offered you a grand. Many times, they will drop you like a rock too.

Overall, the unit looks like a nice little RV. Start using it and get some of the fun and enjoyment that you paid for out of the unit. Don't focus too much on squeezing those last 5 or 10 gallons into the gas tank. Instead, do the things that you planned to do.
