I went to Freehold Hyundai to look at an Elantra after researching it online.  I knew the price I was prepared to pay.  Salesman met me at door and addressed me by my first name.  That dissarmed me. Then later he knew the town I lived in.  I asked him if he did a MV check on me, but the car is in my husband's name, and the insurance is in my name.  Somehow, he got me to look at the Sonata and told me the lease was cheaper than buying.  I am elderly and have alwalys paid cash.  I asked if I could call my husband, as I only have ajittterbug cell phone and didn't have it with me.  He said I had to sign by Nov.30th to get the $6000 rebate, plus $1000 AMEX gift card.  I didn't even have my checkbook with me. I was under such duress, as I have Never bought a car by myself.  He convinced me to put $3500 on credit card.  I have Post traumatic stress sydrome since 2005 when I was in a car accident and the car flipped 5X and also cognitive issues.  I saw a Psychiatrist til last yr., when the insurance co. declined for treatment after 6 yrs.  I kept saying I was tired and wanted to go home, as I had been shopping for 4 hrs. and got there at 2:30 PM.  It was worse than an interrogation at a concentration camp.  Salesman somehow got me to agree and just to get out of there I signed documents.  I don't even recall signing them.  All I remember is him driving my car home and I drove the new one and he collected the additional $2500 check which I made out when I got home.  The MSRP was $23110 with stupid add ons like fog lights and heated seats, which I don't need.  I went right to bed when got home - it was after 7 PM.  In AM got up and read stuff & I am ending up paying $36,000, no gift card, no $6000 cash back, which was I was told I would get after signing, and sent to me, but as a result I couldn't negotiate price.  Called 14 hrs. later and said didn't want car & they laughed at me! Later Pete called me and told me to come in Mon. Dec.3, but he kept telling me I wasn't paying $36,000, but $24,000.  But that's without buying car at end of lease.  I only put about 2000 mi. a yr. on cars and keep about 10 or more years.  I don't know what interest I'm paying for lease payments of $339. mo for 4  yrs.  I am so upset,. they really worked me over. The answer is essentially I signed lease, and the only way I can get out of it is if I die, or pay a big, big penalty and my credit will be downgraded.
