We purchased a diamond ring made of platinum from GEMVARA jewellers.  Immediately when we received the ring we noticed the diamonds were dull and several days we noticed the ring became dull and the diamonds as well.

We had to have the ring resized because living in Houston, TX with the weather being extremely hot my finger swelled.  We went to a national and international reputable jeweller to have the ring resized by a licensed GIA geologist.

Several days later we had to send the ring back to GEMVARA because the ring began to look like an old nickle. After notifying GEMVARA we sent the ring back to them via Fed-Ex.  When they received the ring they informed us because we had the ring appraised by a geologist other than GEMVARA and had it resized by a jeweller other than GEMVARA they would no longer warranty our ring.

They also stated the value of the ring is now $2,750 less than the $3,750.00 that we paid for just several weeks ago!  It seems only GEMVARA is allowed to touch this ring even though they gave a certificate of authentication as to the quality of diamonds and platinum.

After going back and forth with their customer service via emails and telephone we realze GEMVARA is impossible to deal with.  The only thing they want is money and more money and nothing to do with customer satisfaction.

It like purchasing a new car from a dealership but you can only have service done at that specific dealership and if you take it to another dealership because your out of state then your lose your warranty!

We are now in the process of having a GIA certify the diamonds and platinum used by GEMVARA are in fact the same as they certified. Stay away from these folks as they are impossible to deal with.  They are quick to find blame and refuse to take responsiblity is inferior workmanship and materials.

This is an Internet company that takes your money via credit card and never looks at you face to face. Let the buyer beware.  This company has caused us much pain and sorrow both financial and emotional.

GEMVARA A Nightmare!

AUTHOR: inkwia - ()

POSTED: Friday, June 06, 2014

Rebuttal regarding GEMVARA jewelers reply to my complaint . . .

Today after I received my ring from GEMVARA via Fed-ex, ( I opened the sealed packaged in front of the appraiser) I was able to have my ring appraised by a GIA certified gemologist whose credentials are impeccable. The results for me, were shocking.

It seems the value of this $3,750.00 ring I purchased from GEMVARA has 16 low grade diamonds along with a very low quality platinum setting and is appraised at a value of $350.00!

This appraisal corresponds with the certificate included by GEMVARA of the grade of diamonds used as well as the platinum used for the setting.

GEMVARA advertised this ring in such a way that led me to believe having diamonds and platinum valued at $3,750.00.

Instead, I was charged $3,200.00 for their design, consisting of 16 low grade diamonds and low grade platinum appraised at $350.00 in value.

I really thought the diamonds and platinum was valued at $3,750.00 instead of being appraised at $350.00!

As my attorney informed me that although this transaction is perfectly legal (yet deceptive) caveat emptor 'Let The Buyer Beware'.

Yes, I was 'snookered'. Certainly, GEMVARA knew what they were doing (truth in advertising) and as a consumer, I didn't do my due diligence.

I hope this nightmare that I've experienced with GEMVARA can in some small way prevent anyone thinking of doing business with GEMVARA to go to a reputable jeweler instead.

Lessons's Learned...

The ring? Oh yea; It's stowed in my junk drawer.

GEMVARA

To further add to my complaint in exposing GEMVARA they responded to the BBB and stated: " " . . . but the jeweler that did the work, in our opinion, compromised the ring . . .".

I feel confident that the GIA certified gemologist at Garrads Jeweller who resized my ring is competent and they did a great job resizing my ring that consisted of twelve diamonds in a platinum ring.

It seems that GEMVARA is now accusing everyone and anyone of fault and refused to accept their inferior quality of diamonds and platinum used to create and sell this ring for me.

GEMVARA states only a GEMVARA jeweller can analyze or work on the ring that I purchased from them! Why?  Are they hiding something.

This is like buying a Ford from a specific dealer and if you're traveling out of state and need an oil change and go to another dealer then the dealership (GEMVARA) that you purchased the car from wiill void your warranty because you did not take your service needs to them.

Gemvara's Response

We have been in contact with this customer several times regarding his dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, after he took his ring to another jeweler to have it sized, he voided his warranty with us. We know this is not what he wanted to hear, but the jeweler that did the work, in our opinion, compromised the ring, In order for us to fix this we felt we needed to remake the ring. We are able to re-use the customer's diamonds which is why the price has gone down for the repair verses what he originally had paid for it. This was not acceptable to the customer.

At Gemvara, we use only genuine fine metals and high quality gemstones and diamonds. The ring we delivered to our customer is of the same high quality we always provide. While we stand behind our jewelry and craftsmanship, we simply cannot guarantee another's jewelers work. We know this is frustrating for this particular customer and are so sorry he is unhappy with the solutions we offered.
