The following script is recited by the George S. May "Analyst" during the "findings" meeting that occurs at the end of the survey. It is littered with questionable sales psychology that is intended to expose the supposed weaknesses of the business on an embarrassing and generic level. These lines are acted in front of ALL clients word for word. Notice the Problems section at the bottom; EVERY client is told the exact same thing concerning problems within their business. This is a condensed list too. During training, a George May Analyst is given about 40 others that are bound to denigrate the client even more.

Findings Meeting Script

Before I begin to go over our findings, I would like to remind you that the purpose of the preliminary survey as stated on the Survey Authorization is to discuss

1. The Improvements Possible
2. The Estimated Net Benefits the client will derive from making the improvements.

As I stated earlier, the survey is primarily a diagnosis to determine what, if any, problems exist in the business, the cost of the problems, and to what degree they can be immediately remedied. While conducting the survey it is incumbent upon me to determine that you have the will and the desire to solve the problems and that you are able to cooperate mentally, physically, or otherwise in the solution.

I would like to note that all comments are made in the best interest of this company, as is all of the work that is performed by the George S. May International Company. At this point in time we are not concerned with who is responsible for the problems and the profit leaks, but more with where the business is versus where it should be, and what will be required to get it there. Although we can recognize individual failings, we must note that ownership is responsible for all of the conditions, primarily because it owns the business and has the prerogative to decide to correct and/or eliminate problems and excess costs. Although we will always acknowledge the many strengths in a business, the survey is, by its very nature, critical. It is concerned mainly with weakness! Consequently, you must turn your hat around backward and look at the business as an absentee owner. If you owned stock in a company that was not producing a return on you investment, you would be screaming for a change of management or quietly withdrawing your money. I'd also like to note that any figures used are conservative and that the comments are the joint thinking of myself and members of our Management Council.

PROBLEMS

NO PRECISE PICTURE: ownership is attempting to operate the business without a precise picture. This weakens control.

NO DEFINATE PLANS: A caption of a seagoing vessel would never attempt to cross the ocean unless he had a course to navigate, in other words, a path to follow.

A pilot would never take his aircraft off the ground unless the engines and the instruments were operating 100% efficiency, not 99%.

Both a sea captain and the pilot have complete control, minute by minute. They have mapped out their destination and they will be successful.

THIS BUSINESS is being run with a hit or miss attitude, trial and error. There is a real lack of the controls necessary to obtain your goals. I'm going to discuss each of these inefficiencies in detail with you.

EXPENDIENCY VS Because of the aforementioned weakness, this business is
PLANNING operated more on the basis of expediency than on a sound planning basis. Expediency is costly. Expediency is waiting for a problem to hit you in the nose before you solve it, and then only solving it for the moment. Planning anticipates problems and negates them before they cost you profits.
POOR UTILIZATION of Not only is the business failing in its' efforts to maximize the
PERSONNEL: productivity of its line employees, but also from its major assets, you; the managers, supervisors, and decision makers.

BURDEN PRESSED The burden of detail and decision is being constantly presses
UPWARD: upward on to your shoulders, submerging you in detail. This results in the business suffering from the loss of your full time efforts towards more important areas rather than the very basic details you are immersed in.

EMPLOYEE Employees are not fulfilling their responsibilities to their
RESPONSIBILITY: employer as indicated by the answers on the questionnaires.

MORALE: The employee's morale is poor. Ownership has failed to make them feel as though they are a part of a growing business. How secure is their future? What are the plans for the company?

Attitudes: Ownership must be classified as being complacent. Executive complacency breeds a natural offspring, employee indifference towards the best interests of the business. Indifference is one of the most costly work attitudes!
Note: complacency is our technical description of ownership's tolerance towards a weakness or problem beyond its point of discovery.

Poor Coordination: Because of too much reliance on cooperation, which involves emotion rather than an achieved coordination, we have confusion. Employees working at cross purposes.

CONFUSION: throughout the course of the Survey, everyone I have interviewed, including yourselves, have cited a number of instances of costly confusion. These invariably have been the result of weak coordination and other deficiencies I will mention as we continue.

MANUFACTURED Because of poor planning and poor controls, we have a
WORK and/or condition conducive to employees manufacturing unnecessary
OVERTIME: work and unjustified overtime.

If you have been harmed by George S. May, please consider coming forward and telling the public your story. Hopefully, by doing so, you will be protecting others from the same bad experience. There is a new forum listed as GSMIC in Yahoo Groups that may help as a conduit for discussion and general review. It will also serve as a databank of information for anyone involved with or considering the consulting services of this unethical company: If you wish, your identity will be protected as email addresses are not disclosed without your permission. Any anecdotal information or factual data would be greatly appreciated and will be archived for future reference.
