In just about all of their advertising, Giant Appliances states that all of their appliances come with a warranty. This is something I was very adamant about since they sell scratch and dent appliances. The salesperson was either new or just extremely unknowledgeable about anything, so I had him confirm several times that the refrigerator, washer, and dishwasher I was buying came with a warranty.

In all I spent about around 2 grand. To make a long story short, the dishwasher broke down about 5 months later and ended up overflowing and flooding our entire kitchen and a living room area. I called Giant Appliances immediately, and they told me that since the dishwasher was warrantied by the manufacturer (GE), that I'd have to go through them. The lady on the phone seemed rather a little annoyed and couldn't even give me a phone number to call. She said to just look it up online!

I called GE warranty service and gave them the model and serial number and they told me that my dishwasher is not under warranty! I called Giant back, and they told be they were extremely busy and would call me right back. A few days pass by, and no one calls back. So I called again. They tell me that they will take care of everything, but they can't reimburse me for costs I incurred for dealing with the flooding due to the dishwasher. They offered me to exchange the dishwasher for another one that is of the same or equal value. When the delivery driver came with a new dishwasher, he wasn't able to uninstall the broken dishwasher so he said he'll have to schedule another time with a technician who can.

Another week passed by before they come out. I wasn't home when they did the swap, but when I get home, I found out that the dishwasher is a completely different model and doesn't have the timer function, like the original one. When I called Giant about this, they told me that the new one is a much better model with a much higher price tag, and that they actually did me a favor by giving me that newer model.

I am done dealing with this sleazy company. They will do anything to get you to buy when you're there, especially if you are looking to a buy several large appliances. But beware if something goes wrong, they'll completely screw you over.

Just to clear things up...

AUTHOR: Giantappliance - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Hello, I am the owner of Giant Discount Appliances, and thought it was important that some things should be cleared up.

The GE diswasher that was sold to the customer DID have a full manufacturer's warranty. In fact, every item we sell on our floor comes with either a full manufacturer's warranty or our in-store warranty. EVERY GE product we sell comes with a full manufacturer's warranty, which is what their dishwasher is.

We are a FULLY AUTHORIZED DEALER for every brand we carry, and would never do or say anything to make customers believe otherwise. As far as the 'lady on the phone', I argue it was the customer that was annoyed, not our sales person, which is understandable since they have a non-working dishwasher. Not to say our employees are perfect 100% of the time, but they are always friendly and professional.

As to the flooding, the damage was a result of the faulty dishwasher. The item was indeed under the manufacturer's warranty, and the manufacturer has a department that takes care of issues like this. We, Giant Appliances, volunteered to take care of the dishwasher in an attempt to quickly resolve the issue for the customer, at our own expense.

The scheduling was a result of being unable to coordinate a time with the customer, which is why we ended up having to go when the customer wasn't there. The replacement was indeed an upgraded model, athough it didn't have the same exact features. And believe me, we never told the customer we were doing him 'a favor' by giving him a better, newer model.

I am glad there are sites like ripoff report around, but this is the problem with this sort of venue. They allow consumers to take out their frustrations in an unfair and unjust manner. I assure you, our customer satisfaction rate is very high. And we do everything in our power to take care of any issues that may arise. This is how we have become an ACCREDITED member of the Better Business Bureau. Certainly, things may happen on occasion, but we have never been unwilling to try to resolve it in a quick, fair, and courteous manner.
