The Nashville TN Goodwill states on their website that multiple orders will give the buyer "combined shipping charges" up to 20 lbs. but in fact, when it's time to pay your bill you are charged nearly double for your shipping: $14.05 is the discount from a $17. shipping charge. By the time the consumer discovers this it is too late. At these prices, it is literally cheaper BY HALF to buy two new pair of shoes from a local store--or local Goodwill where you have the option of pick-up. No matter how you cut it, this "combined shipping" is nothing more than a scam that leads the consumer to believe if they buy more they will pay "combined" shipping. Recalling that these shoes are donated in the first place, the Nashville Goodwill's practices are extremely misleading and just plain WRONG.

Shopgoodwill shipping charges

AUTHOR: aguyer6754 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 08, 2010

A friend of mine had the same problem with Goodwill. He purchased  four matchbox models airplanes in two separate auctions at Goodwill. Each model weighed less that 3 oz.  He was told that there would be combined shipping but he was charged $17.00 for a package that weighed less than one pound even with the packing material and box and all 4 models were in the same box.

He complained but he lived with it. He then tried to bid on another model that was only $5.00 and weighed less that 2lbs. Goodwill sent him an invoice for $13.00 in shipping charges. He emailed Goodwill and complained that the shipping was too high. (This person ships about 10 parcels a day for his ebay business so he really knows shipping rates)

Goodwill refused to send the package any other way and tried to make him pay for it which he flat out refused to do because he felt he was getting ripped off by unusually high shipping cost so Goodwill suspended his bidding account. He really did not care since he felt they were such a rip off anyway.

I too tried to bid on a Goodwill item but when I looked at the shipping cost I found something very strange. I wanted to send a package to my brother in OH from the Goodwill Newark OH auction site. The shipping cost to ship 2lb package was over $12.00. conversely the shipping cost to send the package to my home in RI was only $8.00. Exactly how does Goodwill ship things where there is such a huge difference in shipping prices even when the parcel is going only a few miles from the Goodwill shipping address?

I will never buy anything from  Shop Goodwill until they address this shipping problem and offer bidders a choice of how they want their package shipped. Their shipping prices are way out of whack and it is often three times what the item cost. How do they expect poor people to pay for these items when they inflate shipping cost way beyond the actual price of the item when there are a lot of far cheaper ways to ship things?
