I found Government Careers Inc on an internet job search website. This company made several job posts which displayed something to the affect: "Government Jobs available." Out of curiousity, I clicked on the link to read the full advertisement and saw a toll free phone number to call for those who were interested in finding government jobs. I called the number and a gentlemen named Albert McMurray answered the phone. He gave me his sales pitch almost immediately.

After Albert gave his sales pitch, I did ask him a series of questions about his services. He told me that test preparation materials were going to be sent to me and within 72 hours, I was going to be contacted by a Job Counselor who was going to monitor this whole process. "Well, what process?" I asked.  He said that this Job Counselor was going to be the one to schedule the exam that I am supposed to be using the materials to study for. After I take the exam and pass it, then my information, including my resume', would then be forwarded to several job openings in the area of my choice.

Resume'?, Yes, I was told that somewhere in the process, the Job Counselors were going to request a resume' from me, review it, and make necessary suggestions on what I should change in order to make it...I guess, "marketable". The services of the Job Counselors is what I am supposed to be paying $119.00 for.

After this, I asked him about the refund policy that he mentioned within his opening pitch. He told me that if I received the materials, was schedule for a test, took the test and failed it, then I would be eligible for a refund. Furthermore, I was told that if, for any reason, I feel that I was not satified with their services, then I would be eligible for a refund. I did ask if this call was recorded. My friend Albert McMurray, who claimed that he was from my economically depressed hometown as a way to sympathize with me, told me that the call was not recorded. Now that should have been one my first warning signs!

Upon hearing all of this, I reasoned that it was fair game. I needed a job. It's no real job stability out there in corporate America right now. I thought that getting a government job was my answer. I was so enamored with the idea of stability that I figured "what the heck, take the test, and if I fail, I get my money back."

Well that was Nov 1, 2009. It is now 16 whole days later and a couple of blows of reality sets in.

1. I did not receive a call from the Job Counselor at all. I was told within 72 hours.

2. My bank statement did show that a credit card transaction was made to Government Careers Inc that day. But it wasn't a one time payment of $119.00. Instead they charged me twice for $110.00, for a total of $220.00. I decided to call them about this discrepency. I tried to call them back through the customer service phone number that Al McMurray gave me (1-866-831-2911) and the customer service number on their website (520-318-4520). The first number was busy everytime. The second number had a voice recording prompting me to leave a message. But when I did call the number that was on the job annoucement (877-318-4520), someone answered on the first ring. This is to pitch their sale to me. I asked that person to connect me to Customer Service, I got the same voice recording. Then I called the sales people again and asked for Al Mc Murray and they put me on hold and transferred my call to that same Customer Service voice recording.

Since I cant get no one to talk to me about my refund, or at least services. I have concluded that this place is a big scam. I am now resonating with the fact that I got jipped out of $220.00. I don't have a job, how is it that I am able to give someone $220.00? How have they profited from me when I received no service from this company?

Here are some other reasons why this is a scam:

1. Federal employment requires one to have a federal resume, which is longer and more detailed than your typical one pagers. This resume must meet the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities requirements for the position you are interested in.

2. A person is rearly hired into federal employment through 3rd party means. The goverment has an offical ".gov" website that posts its opening for all federal government agencies. One must always follow the directions on that job post to be considered for a position.

3. Albert McMurray couldn't even tell me the typical pay grades that a recent 4 year college graduates could be offered. In fact, he didn't even know that the government had pay grades.

4. The only government agency that I know offer public tests for employment is the United States Postal Services.

I really do not want to see people get scamed like this. That is why I am writing all of this out. Please, if you are unsure about a particular service. Do some research. There are folks out there that will play on your financial situation, your desperation, and these tough economic times to deceive you. Be vigilent. I wish I would have been 16 days ago, I would have had $220.00 extra dollars to be jobless with.
