I went into my debit card report from Wachovia Bank today and noticed that $91.00 had been taken from my account by this company, Merchandise Direct today January 16, 2009.
The fact is I don't recall ordering a thing, and not that expensive. I am having problems coming up with the money for medicine that has suddenly gone up on me as it is.
I do recall attempting to order a $20.00 item by the name of Snuggies from a phone order, but I could not seem to get a human being on the line at all. I just wanted the one 20 dollar item with the free second robe. No where near 91 dollars.
I am going to Wachovia and closing my account as this happened to me before regarding these free magazines. I just settled and this pops up. I am keeping my money where it is really safe.
I have not received whatever this merchandise is yet.

Unscrupulous business practices

AUTHOR: Ray-N-Reno - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 13, 2012

I am writing to add to the warnings that consumers may care to heed concerning GPM and other companies who use similar practices in doing business on the Internet. A standing rule of thumb when dealing with any firm on the Internet, outside of insurance of secure transaction, is if the consumer must give billing information before viewing items to be purchased Do Not Proceed!

GPM will bill your credit/debit card whether or not you care to complete the transaction, charges will not reflect offers presented, and recourse is difficult to pursue. As is the case when doing business in general, and especially in the environment of cyberspace, the rule of Buyer Beware definitely applies. I personally refuse to purchase anything online without a multitude of customer praise for transactions with a particular firm and have heard and experienced nothing but bad with GPM.

GPM*MERCHANDISE DIRECTT Ripped off to the tune of $91.00 from this company Wallingford Connecticut

AUTHOR: TomZapp - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I am a consumer and do buy things online a lot more then in the stores.  I know that sometimes when I am clicking through the sites I click to fast and agree to something that I did not want.  Today I went into my checking account and saw a charge from the same company.  I called the number, gave them my home number and there was my order.  If you do not know what a charge is call the company first.  Then call your card company if you do not see a credit issued within 7 to 10 business days.
The thing i saw a lot when I worked at a bank as a sr rep, was consumers do not take responsibility for their errors.  If you call a company during business hours most likely you WILL get a human on the phone.
In this case the company is a general shipping co and ships many things out as they are a HUB.
I am looking forward to getting my perfect brownie set soon.
Cheers
Tom Zapp, Wilmington, Delaware USA
