I contacted Granite State oil to request a fill up of my oil tank. I confirmed that the rate I would be charged was $1.899, as was published on NewEnglandOil.com. I then taped a blank check to my back door for the delivery man to pick up the next day.

The day the oil was scheduled for delivery, I got a call from the delivery man, who I think was also the owner. He said he would not be able to deliver that day but would drop the fuel oil by the end of the week. I said that I was not in a rush and that he could deliver when it was convenient.

Again, the next day I got another call from the delivery man/owner. He said he would be out to deliver that day, and asked if he had ever been to my house before. I explained that he had been there last year, and that the oil spigot was in the center of the back of the house, just beyond the hot tub. Mention of the hottub made him remember my home. He told me that my hottub looked so inviting, that if he had an extra pair of shorts he would've jumped in! I nervously laughed his comments off, praying that he was only kidding.

When I got home that day, he had delivered the oil and left a copy of the slip in the back door. The rate I was charged was $1.999 per gallon - a full 0.10 per gallon more than the price I had confirmed upon ordering. I figured it was a mistake, so I called to have the error corrected. The secretary told me that they charge whatever the price is on the day of delivery. I told her that I had called to confirm the price so that this would not happen. She remembered confirming the price with me but said there was nothing she could do. She promised to have the owner call me to rectify the situation.

I thought I was being nice by being flexible about my delivery date. I did not realize that it would result in a price increase. At this point I have not been contacted by the owner at all. He has cashed my check which he wrote for the inflated price. Had I known this would happen I would've ordered from another company, as there were several who still had the rate of $1.899 posted.

This company uses dishonest business practices. I will NEVER use them again and I would advise everyone to do the same.

Jim, Contrary to your assertion that the secretary told me the rates fluctuate, I can assure you that she did not. I went so far as to confirm with her that I would in fact be charged the rate of $1.899. She confirmed that was the rate I would be charged. Then they overcharged me. Not only was I overcharged, I also never received a return phone call. This company is shady. Frankly, if you don't work for Granite State Oil, you have no idea what transpired here. I'm not sure why you are even commenting unless you are just one of those internet trolls.

The secretary told you the price of oil may vary from day to day and therefore the end consumer price may vary from day to day. There was no indication in your report of any price guarantee. Don't bother saying it as I'll save you the effort...I don't work for them or any oil company.
