I attended Grantham while on Active Duty in order to complete my business degree. My GPA was mid 3.'s and I always ensured my financial account was taken care of. Last month, my wife received a phone call from a collector claiming that I owed Grantham nearly 1000 dollars for classes that I took. After doing some digging, I found out that someone at Grantham, probably my ADVISOR, signed me up for two classes. I found this perplexing because my last semester there, I informed my advisor that I was going to take a break because I needed to focus on work more. I had a lot of projects coming up and I didn't want my grades to suffer, nor my work.

I called Grantham and was told that I was signed up for 2 classes that I did not ever log into, but since I was signed up for them I was responsible to pay for them. I informed the woman on the phone that I did not request to take these classes and I should not be liable for something that I did not do. She informed me that there was nothing she was able to do since it had already been sent to collections. I asked her why they hadn't tried to contact me about this. She said they had sent me emails (which I never received) and several letters (again which I never received). I informed her that I am disputing the charges and would be sending a certified letter to the school for them to investigate and ultimately remove the charges from my account.

She informed me that I can "do whatever I want, but it won't do no good" since the account was in collections. I told her that they have an obligation to inform me of any debts to them and they did not. Therefore I will go forward with sending the letter and filing formal complaints with the BBB.

As of this very minute, it has been nearly a month and I have not heard anything. I logged into Grantham's website and selected their chat option. The person I spoke with informed me that the charges still have not been removed and the account is still in collections. He then refused to give me anymore help, besides calling the same people I already spoke with that said they couldn't help either.

This school claims to be military friendly, an innovator in online education, etc. when in reality they are nothing of the sort. They take advantage of people, using the lack of laws (governing electronic signatures, submittals, etc.) If you have been scammed by them, I urge you to contact your congressman/woman and ask them to get involved; military or civilian, it doesn't matter. That is my next step. (If I can update this report with what happens I will)
