I saved my pennies for quite some time before I was ready to buy a newer car. I waited for 2 1/2 years and thought I found the perfect car for me and my 1 year old son.
Originally priced at $7,000.00, I assumed that price was for someone who would be financing the vehicle, but I was prepared to buy one outright. I offered $3,000.00 for a 1995 Monte Carlo in cosmetically beautiful condition. I even test drove it and it ran very well, or so I thought. The owner and salesman agreed to the price I offered and I drove it off the lot that minute. I was so excited, I finally had a nice car and had worked and waited a long time for it.
Unfortunately, two days later everything changed. I pulled into my complex's parking lot and was parked out front when suddenly smoke billowed out from under the hood and antifreeze poured out from below.
Assuming a minor issue, I had it towed to my usual mechanic who proceeded to inform me that half the engine was apoxied on as opposed to what you're supposed to use, nuts and bolts...how nice.
This adventure with a crooked business man who likes to steal from those who are less than rich, particularly vunerable ones like I was, cost me approximately $4,000.00 to repair. I consequently had to have an engine, transmission and alternator installed, not to mention charge the air conditioning.
I guess he got the price he wanted in a sick way.
Incidentally, when I called him to let him know of his company's induced dilema, he offered me a way to fix it. He advised me that he was going to be holding a huge sale and I could trade the car in...for a $1,000.00 credit!
When considering the place of purchase for your next used car, why not take the extra $5,000.00 you would spend repairing the car you might have gotten at Greatest Deals on Wheels and go to a professional, reputable dealership; there are plenty in the area. I assure you, the only thing you'll miss out on is a migraine headache and a hole in your pocket.
