The Grupo Maya resorts are generally lovely - we are 2 B/R 2+2 Grand Mayan timeshare owners and have been to 3 of the 5 main resorts. The sales/developer side of the equation is entirely different. We were tempted by the 1000 peso/10% room credit and special spa offers at Los Cabos on Dec. 15th. We should have left after the free breakfast but were still looking for more details on the upgrade option for the Luxxe villas. After 3 hrs, we finally got the number - approx $16k more, in addition to $66k existing equity for a 1 B/R 2+2. We agreed to a 90-day cash out on the basis that we could rent our 4 2009 weeks for $1500/wk by March 1st- 'confirmed' with a phone call to Regal, the rental agent. During the 'scrum', our deposit and cash-out payment figures were switched and our credit card was dinged for the higher amount. OK, an 'honest' mistake. In compensation, we were offered a free week (worth $1500, according to our sales rep, Gabriel). The reality? We read the contract pack more carefully that night and discovered: the free week was a corporate week and is virtually worthless as a rental; and the 90-days became 30. We also noted the 5-day cancellation option and called Cust Service (Josh) immediatelty to cancel and wrote to our rep. We came into see Josh 2 days later to process the refund. What we got was rudeness, disrespect, inexplicable paperwork - and finally our credit card refund. The cost? Parts of 2 days and CAN$700 due to currency fluctuations & Mastercard's 2.5% foreign transaction fee. Buyer beware!

Mayan Palace Timeshare Scam

AUTHOR: janie78j - ()

POSTED: Thursday, July 11, 2013

We were also scammed with a Mayan Palace Timeshare. They claim they don't misrepresent themselves. Yet the promises and the drinks ease you into signing. Once you've done that, you are screwed. Through all the other initials on your contract, you realize you initialled, that they don't misrepresent themselves. Now you are up the creek. We had 2 timeshares they claimed that Alliance marketing would sell for us in 3 months max. We would recoup the money we paid at the Grand Luxxe and would net out ahead of the game. Well 15 months later, I am out $30k and I still have the original timeshares. I have also not heard a word from Alliance marketing in several months. Plus I found out they are a marketing group, thus not legally allowed to sell. I have had to take a 2nd mortgage out on my house. All the answers I have seen from the Mayan on various websites show they are not at all interested in helping out. Do they not have a concious?
