Guru Services Poor communication, lies, and wouldn't return deposit after I cancelled the job Commerce Michigan

On Wed 9/14/2016 I wrote a check of $544 to Guru Services for a deposit on repairing the asphalt apron of our driveway.
Jamie told us he would be out Tuesday to do the work.

On Tues 9/20/2016 no one showed up to do the work and no one called. So I called Jamie and asked for the status and again he said "I'll be out on Tuesday." We were not pleased, but gave him one more week.

On the morning of Tues 9/27/2016 again there was no call and no one showed up. I began to investigate Guru Services online and found out that others had reported his poor communication and shoddy work.

I called Jamie late that morning and asked when he would be out and he said "I don't know." At that point I had enough and told him we are not going through with the job and we want a refund immediately.

I asked when we would get our money. He got very angry with me on the phone and hung up. I called back and asked when will we get our money. Again he hung up.

I called again and asked when would we get our money back and he replied, "Tuesday." While I did not believe him, I gave him until the following Tuesday to pay.

By Tuesday 10/4/2016 no check had arrived. I called him again and informed him that we have not seen the check. He said he mailed it the day before.

On Thursday 10/6/2016 no check had arrived (and it should only take 1-2 days from Commerce to Farmington). I called again and informed him no check had arrived. He said he would bring out a check personally on Friday. Of course that never happened and his excuses dragged into the next week.

On Friday 10/14/2016 he never showed. I called him and he said he would bring it over on Saturday.

On Saturday 10/15/2016 he never showed. I called and he said he send it certified mail that day. But there's no way he could have because this was in the afternoon after the post office had closed.
I called multiple times from my cell phone to see if he would confirm he had sent it (an impossibility), but he let it go straight to his full voicemail box.

By Wed 10/19/2016 no certified mail had arrived. I called him and asked when he sent it and he said Monday. I told him if I didn't receive the check by Friday I would be taking him to small claims court.

By Fri 10/21/2016 no certified mail had arrived. I called him and he re-asserted that he sent the check on Monday.
I asked to meet him in person today and he said I would have to drive an hour to Flint.
I said I'd like to meet him tomorrow to personally pick up a check and he said he was busy.
He then said "I put it in the mail and I'm not going to write you a second check."

If you'd like to do business with him, I'm sure he'd be happy. And I'm pretty sure you won't be.
