I joined NASE and Mega Life and HEalth insurance after starting my company two years ago. In March 2007 I was unable to straigthen my left leg because my knee was swollen, red and painful one morning and I decided to go to the ER for treatment. That ER only did a blood test and sent me home hobbling on one leg; later that same night, I went to a Level I trauma center, and was given a thorough exam. Consequently, the bills were exorbitant, the discount obtained by the indurance but none of the amounts were paid, according to the EOB due to "pre-existing condition." I've never had this type of problem with my leg prior that morning, since having my knee cap removed over 30 years ago! And I was not happy that I would have to pay thousands of dollars for medical care received for the swelling that March morning. Several months later, I learned that the deductible was $5000/occurence! Need less to say, I was dumbfounded! I cancelled the Mega plan and NASE subscription August, but the company still debitted my account the monthly premium for the insurance in September. After squawking about this, the company returned my money and cancelled the insurance.
A couple of days ago, I received an envelope full of EOB s from Midwest National Life of Tennessee for services obtained from my PCP on 2/20/07, 3/28/07, 4/13/07, 6/4/07. All of the EOBs had my Mega ID on them, and all of the charges were denied because of no insurance. I called the insurance company to find out why these claims were denied, and was reminded that I cancelled that policy on 6/8/06 (Verified by letter in my computer). I also asked why these were sent to this insurance company when my provider sent them to Mega. The customer services agent was nice but could not respond to my concern, so I hung up frustrated with the situation. I went on line and found the ripoff page and was amazed at learning both companies are owned by the same parent company and that others have had similiar situations.

I just got off the phone with Mega Claims rep who promised me she'd "lok into the matter and fix the problem."

THis company should not be allowed to work the way they do, taking insured's money and giving nothing in return. I will be satisfied is when this fraudulent activity ends and no one else is sucked into this company's tactics.

Currently I have no insurance but plan to get a Health Savings plan when my business's income improves.
