My mother is 63 years odl and lives in Shelby, Ohio in Richland county and she went to this website by accident. She has an HMO with TheHealthPlan of Ohio. HealthPlan.org is their website, she went to HealthPlans.org by accident. First let me say that she is not good with computers and is not doing that well mentally. She has symptoms of early onset alzheimer's. So it doesn't take much to con her into something by misleading her, she just is not all there any longer and is often talking to doctors and nurses because of her declining health.

So she goes to this website HealthPlans.org by accident. She sees the toll free number listed on their website, 800-790-5584 and calls it thinking it is her HMO in Ohio. Somehow she ends up enrolling in some redemption program where you receive a $100 retail gift card, or a $25 restaurant gift card. You have to verify who you are by giving them your credit card for "authentication purposes", they claim that is why it is only $1.95. So they charge you $1.95 as a one time fee. She says that she told the person on the phone that she needed to speak to someone about getting access to a specialist doctor in her network and the person on the phone said that she would transfer her there once they completed this verification payment of $1.95. She was told that on her checking card statement it would say something about American Savings Promotions or something similar. I found a link about a similar sounding scam here. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2014/06/10/postcard-target-walmart-scam

After she gave this woman on the phone her checking card number and she ran it, she hurried my mom off of the phone and said that she was transferring her to her insurance company. The phone then dissconneted. When my mom tried to call back in, it would ring once, then just dissconnect automatically.

I just happened to call her a couple hours later and she told me about this before she forgot it and I immediately had her cancel her card.

After we cancelled her card I called in to read these guys the riot act. That went nowhere, and they hung up on me. Then the same thing happened to me where I would call back, it would ring twice and then discconnect. I called from my spouses phone and same deal. I would try to speak with a supervisor and they would hang up. If I called back from the same phone the phone would ring twice and then hang up. These guys are clearly professional scammers who know how to maniupulate caller ID or phone lines or soemthing.

I honestly can not believe that TheHealthPlan of Ohio is letting this scam go on. I don't know who is behind HealthPlans.org but they have a phone line scam that is trying to scam people into giving up their bank or credit card info by misleading unsuspecting people. There have to be hundreds or thousands of seniors who have to be having the same thing happening to them. Who knows what they would have done with my moms checking account card. I live in Texas now, but I am visiting her for Thanksgiving and I have already spoken with Sherrif Steve Sheldon in Richland county and we have an appointment to file a formal complaint and police report on Friday.

As I find out more information I will update this RipOffReport case if I can. If anyone has more information on who is behind HealthPlans.org please leave a comment. I want to be able to bring as much information as possible with me to the Richland county sherriffs office on Friday.
