I've been a Hollywood Tans customer for many years. The location in South Plainfield is located about 3 miles from my house and at the beginning of every year I would purchase a large quantity of their high end, HT60 tanning packages to cover me for the year. I essentially prepaid for my tanning sessions, so I wouldn't have to worry about it all year long. The cost was around $400.

Now it's May and I still have about 20 tans remaining, valued at approximately $17 per session, about $300 worth of unused and paid services. I showed up to tan the other day and the location had a sign on it that said, "close, call the corporate office" It had some letter on it about previous debt and closing the store being good for the company, but it wasn't a bankruptcy protection letter.

I tried the corporate number on the door of the store, but kept getting a busy signal. A girl at one of the stores was kind enough to give me the REAL corporate number and laughed, saying that the man that owned the South Plainfield location put a fake number on the door, as though that was funny. Confused, I called corporate office and the ONE customer service girl left a recording that said for any Hollywood Tans customers in my situation, go to the Warren or Bound Brook locations. Those locations are over 15 miles from my home and take a half hour to get to.

That's when it gets good... I call the other stores and they tell me I can use my remaining tans there, but I have to use them by July 31st?!? That's two months. Unless I plan to go tanning every other night for the next two months that isn't happening.

The Hollywood Tans web site CLEARLY states this on it's web site, "Hollywood Tans can be used at any of our more than 300 locations nationwide.*" "*A $3.00 surcharge may apply when transferring tanning sessions from one salon to another." I'd pay the $3 surcharge to be able to use my tans at MY LEISURE and go to the salons that are within 5 miles of my house. This is false advertising by the company and flat out fraud.

This is completely illegal and I will be filing formal complaints if the company does not release my funds or allow me to use my package as per their corporate policy.
