Ordered a GE Refrigerator online from Home Depot.  Wanted specific features only available on one model.  It took 11 days for delivery.  Ok, we waited.  It was delivered Friday August 13.  Stopped cooling overnight Saturday and all food spoiled.  Made about 5 calls to Home Depot on Sunday afternoon to no avail.  One rep said it would be replaced because it was less than 48 hours and put us on hold, and we were disconnected.  Called back but got another rep and they couldn't transfer us to the first one.  Second rep couldn't even find the order number.

Finally Monday (today) reached a rep who set up a service call.  I cancelled business appointments for the day and worked from home.  Repairman came, found that the compressor was bad and said that it would take 6 days to get a new one shipped in.  Called GE about getting it overnighted and they said call Home Depot to get it replaced.  Finally called VISA to dispute the charge and they contacted Home Depot about replacing it.  Along the way Home Depot offered a "loaner" but wouldn't take this one back to the store (we have nowhere to put two refrigerators.)

All in all it has been about 15 phone calls, conflicting information, and no resolution.
My next move is to email everyone (about 1500) people in my address book and tell them the story.  Next call is to Federal Trade Commission after we get Visa to dispute the charge.

Home Depot and GE both in on this scam

AUTHOR: Tyler - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 29, 2012

I had a similar experience at the Home Depot store in Fairfield, California. Home Depot and GE are dumping damaged appliances on consumers, knowing in advance that there are issues prior to delivery.

At least you got a loaner. Years on, I am still stuck with a severely damaged GE dryer that wobbles on the floor and a promise note from Home Depot's Fly-By-Night appliance delivery company for a $150 reimbursement which of course was a lie.

I just filed my report as well here:
