I signed up for their hosting service and hosted two small sites there.  The sites had a lot of articles that I was writing.  Then one day, they sent me a notice that my account was using too many resources.  Not too much space, but that there was a program running? I told them that I had not done anything or installed anything that would use resources. They cancelled my account, without offering me any help to figure out what was happening.

They then told me that i would need to pay them in order for me to get my files back.  I feel as though my website is being held ransom... what they are doing should be illegal.  Their customer service was rude and unprofessional. They did not offer any assistance whatsoever and are trying to extort more money out of me even though i did not do anything. I am sure they are ripping off other people.  There are a lot of stories online.  I recommend that you DO NOT consider using them.  They are the worst hosting company i have ever used.

Hostzilla Terms of Service

AUTHOR: Hostzilla.com Customer Support - (Hong Kong)

POSTED: Sunday, October 07, 2012

Sadly since this complaint has been submitted to ROR by someone using an anonymous username and not being honest about their geographical location, we cannot give a definitive response on a specific case basis. However, from the details of the complaint, we can identify the likely cause of the issue being discussed.

Hostzilla's Terms of Service for shared hosting accounts specifically prohibit the use of auto-blogging softwares and plugins. These terms are clearly displayed on our website, and customers agree to abide by them when placing an order for hosting services.

Unfortunately, occasionally customers either do not read, do not understand or decide not to respect these terms of service, which are designed to protect service quality for all users. Our sophisticated server monitoring systems, and dedicated systems admin staff quickly identify these users and they are sent emails requesting that they remove or disable non-compliant softwares and plugins, and also remind them of the terms of service stipulations in this regard.

Our technical support staff are available to assist with compliance with the terms of service on request. Unfortunately some customers do not avail of the assistance offered and sometimes even ignore the request to bring their accounts back into TOS compliance. In these instances we have no option but to suspend the account until the customer contacts us.

Very rarely, a customer will refuse to comply, or will comply following suspension, but then reinstate the prohibited plugins after their account has been reactivated. In these circumstances we are forced to terminate the customer's hosting account to protect the websites and interests of our thousands of other customers. Under no circumstances are customer accounts ever terminated, or their files deleted, without proper warning and ample opportunity to correct the issue prompting possible termination.

Customers are expected to maintain their own backups, and utilities are provided in the control panel to do so. Our server backups are designed for internal use, and in the event that we are requested to make them available to any customer there is a charge applied. This applies to accounts terminated for breach of TOS as well as active accounts.
