Last year I purchased an HP 1522nf to use in my office.  It was on sale for $299.

Just after the warranty expired, the scanner displayed an error, making the machine useless.  I tried numerous fixes and suggestions from consumer websites, but HP was completely non-responsive and would not provide any suggestions over the phone, email or their tech chat.

The only tech support I could reach were the sales reps in India who have never used a multifunction printer, had no idea what I was requesting, but still refused to help find a solution.  They did, however, offer to take my credit card number to charge me for refusing to help.   I even volunteered to buy the part and fix it myself if they would tell me what part needed to be replaced but they refused.

I have a cheap old HP printer that has lasted 10 years, yet this new expensive multifunction machine lasted only one year.  Supposedly, this is a high volume printer, but 10,000 pages in it's lifetime is NOT high volume at all.

The ink for this machine was very expensive and never lasted as long as it was supposed to. Usually only  half the time.  $80 for a black in cartridge that was rated to last 2500 pages never lasted more than a thousand.

I asked around and heard from several others that their HP products lasted only one year.  Exactly as long as the warranty. Even the sales rep who earns commission from HP told me this and recommended another brand.  No extended warranty was available to purchase from HP.  I guess that should have been a red flag, but I didn't know the quality of their products had so drastically decreased.

I suppose they think I will just buy a new machine. They are right, I will have to buy a new machine, but I will never again buy or recommend an HP product.
