The store is not much better.
While purchasing an item at Best Buy, I was asked if I would like to get the reward zone card at the local store in Grand Forks, North Dakota. I agreed to sign up for the card if the card had no fee. The salesman said they would run my information and would be able to tell me if there was a yearly fee.
After, filling out the paperwork I asked two more times if the card would have a fee. By this point I had been handed off to a different sales associate who was looking at my information on the computer. I was told No, you will not have a yearly fee. (With witnesses)
Today, I received the card and activated it only to find out I had been charged the fee. I returned to the store and asked about it. The manager knew exactly which poorly trained employee had given me the false information, but could do nothing about it. (They did trick me into signing the second signature line after all.)
I called the HSBC phone system and played phone tag for an hour before being told they could do nothing.
After the phone call, I went online and paid the balance from my purchase at Best Buy. All that is left is the 59.00 fee which I am still trying to get removed. I have a very high credit rating (98.9 percentile for my age) and do not believe I should be charged or tricked into paying a yearly fee.
Regardless of what happens I want the card canceled, and I plan on writing a few creatively worded letters in the future. Most likely I will end up back at best buy fighting for a gift card or something dumb.
