this is so sad. a little girl got sick and there were all of these fundraisers. i started hearing stuff like they were using the money for themselves and that the state paid all of their medical bills. then i heard how the mom quit her job even though the child was going back to school and the dad was doing free work for his family. i am sad the little girl is sick but if it is not putting a financial burden on them why do they keep asking for and getting money and why do all of the fundraisers say they need it for medical bills or for treatments when they dont? Then the dad's mom has been asking people to send money directly to them and telling everyone how much they need it and so i bet they have gotten thousands of dollars outside of the fundraisers from unsuspecting people trying to do something good like us. it is sad that they would take advantage of their little girls sickness to make money. i thought we were doing something good and i feel so bad for the girl that her parents would do this. then i checked to see if they were registered with the state and their not. so they lied to all of us about the financial burden and none of the money we gave is a tax deduction and i think that they are supposed to be registered with the state. i am not sure exactly where they live though.

The Truth!!!!

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Lourdes (probably not your real name),

My name is John and I'm Hayley Desjardins' uncle, who'd like to rebut your comments with truth and facts. First, you must be incredibly ignorant or just a despicable person to take the name of my beautiful and innocent 6 year old neice who's battling a serious blood disorder and associate her name with the term "Rip Off". I'm sure you'd appreciate it if some coward did that anonymously to one of your loved ones. I implore you to do what's right and to remove your baseless post from this website. If you did in fact donate money to the fund and feel you've been "Ripped Off" in any way, then I will personally refund your money or even double your refund and make a donation in your name to the charity of your choice. Please do what's right!!!

Now for some facts. When little Hayley fell ill, her parents were in total shock and to make things worse, poor Hayley had just lost her grandfather 5 days prior. She's undergone countless medical procedures, treatments and hospitalizations for her blood disorder and she's lost a significant portion of her childhood. Thank god she's now responding well to treatment, but she's far from out of the woods and no one knows what the future will hold for her. Close personal friends and family, wanting to do something, anything to help, decided to legally set up a fund with a federal tax ID number in Hayley's name in order to help out the family with the financial burdens of having a child with a serious illness. This was done only after consulting with an attorney, bank officials, and others who'd legally set up similar funds. It should be made clear that Hayley's parents never asked for one cent from anyone, but only for our love and support and prayers that Hayley would eventually get better.

At the date of your posting, 8/10/08, there had only been two small fundraisers for the family, which were organized by close personal friends and family and they're not required to "register with the state". Anyone holding a fundraiser needs to get a $10 permit from the state and the only stipulation is that all funds raised go directly to the family. Did I mentioned the Attorney General's Office was consulted too. Again, the family isn't soliciting anything from anyone!!! The fact is, the family has not drawn a single check from the fund account. That's right, not a single check. In fact they're not authorized to, and need to go through an unrelated trustee to get any funds released at all.

Their goal is that Hayley will continue to improve, her disease will be cured, and they won't need any of the money that's been raised for them. Then, they will make donations in Hayley's name to various charities applicable to her disease. However, if Hayley's condition should worsen, there's the possibility that she could require a very risky bone marrow transplant, which would require her to be hospitalized out of state for weeks or more likely months. Now this is where the fund comes into play to pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance, travel and lodging expenses for the family, regular houshold bills, mortgage, etc. The thought of those holding the fundraisers is that it would be better to do the fundraising now than to wait until that happens. These types of legal fundraisers are held all the time all accross the country to help out families facing a variety of hardships.

Did you know that this past weekend, a fundraiser and bone marrow registration drive was held in Hayley's name and it was a huge success! In addition to raising money for the fund and raising awareness for blood disorders, the event registered nearly 200 new donors to the bone marrow registry. Pretty good since the national average for these drives is only 20!! Can you imagine if just one of those donors is called upon to save a life in the future!!!!

Now about you, "Lourdes" because after all, it is all about you isn't it? Please write back so we can keep in touch and make this right, so you feel comfortable. If you did give any money, which I doubt you did, then again, I'll refund it. The story about your sister and the hospital sounds pretty made up and I'm very suspicious of you and your motivations. You know who you are, and your attempt to sabotage the good deeds of others will be futile and you can either jump on board and help out, or stand in the shadows and do bad things like drag an innocent little girl's name through the mud. Shame on you!! Do what's right now and remove your post so this family can get back to dealing with the issue at hand, which is the health and well being of their little girl. Your actions have caused undue stress and angst for their family and supporters. There's only one way to right your wrong, and you know what to do. Try to imagine life in their shoes. First the loss of a loved one, then your daughter is diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, then some stranger starts calling you a fraud all over the internet??!! I sure hope nothing like this ever happens to you. But if it does, then please look me up and I'll right you a check because I'm sure you're gonna need it and I'll hold fundraisers for you too.

Father of Hayley

AUTHOR: Michael Desjardins - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2008

My name is Michael Desjardins and I am Hayley's father. In April of 2008 our 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia a potentially fatal disease. For the next three months Hayley was constantly in and out of the hospital, and my wife, Allison, and myself held constant vigil over our daughter.

While in the hospital friends, family, and complete strangers offered to help by doing fund raisers to help with our household and medical expenses.

It is with deep sadness that I have to respond to such a slanderous report, but I have to protect my family name that has been in high standing in Saco for over 50 years.

If you research the upcoming fund raisers you will see that it clearly states that the funds will be used to help with expenses incurred during Hayley's illness and any remaining funds will be donated to various charities involved in Hayley's recovery. ie..Aplastic Anemia Assoc.,DKMS,MCCP,or The Barbara Bush Wing at Maine Medical.

For one to say we're in it for the money is ludicrous, last weekend we spent our time sponsoring a bone marrow drive in which we registered 160 new potential donors on the National Bone Marrow Registry, so we're not just in it for ourselves.

I am deeply sorry that you feel you have been mislead in some way, and I am fully prepared to refund any money to a dissatisfied donor.

So please respond so we can resolve any problems that you have.

Thank You,
Michael,Allison,Hayley and Maddison

i feel really bad that i even reported this except i feel like people should know. i told the state to. i forgot to say before that my sister works at the hospital where the little girl used to go. she's not suposed to say anything but when i told her about the money we gave when we were in Maine she told me and then i just looked on the web and found all this other stuff. i also heard some people talking at the thing i went to about how they got the state to pay all there medical bills and all that other stuff! i feel bad but i really dont see how if they dont have to pay money cause she is sick why i or anybody else should give them my hardearned cash unless it is going to make her better. i give to all sorts of stuff when i can and i feel like i couldve given money to somone who needs it.
