The store at 200 South Locust was a former Eagles store. Last year when Eagles went bankrupt, Hy-Vee purchased the store. They said at the time that they were going to remodel the store and open it in a few months. That was over a year ago. Then a couple months ago they said they were going to tear the store down, put a new building up as well as a gas station. Aside from a Hy-Vee coming soon sign nothing has happened. I am wondering what is taking Hy-Vee so long in getting the new store put up at the 200 South Locust location?

Maybe Eagle's wasn't the best choice for shoppers, but for those of us living in the southern parts of Dubuque, it was the only grocery store in that part of town. I liked it especially after church, because it was only about 1/2 mile away. Now except for one store on the north end, all the grocery stores are out at the west end of town. So if we need a couple things from a grocery store we are basically forced to go all the way out to the west end, and deal with all the traffic on Dodge St (US 20) which is being made 10 times worse by the construction.

I like Hy-Vee, and I prefer it over Wal-Mart. But I wish they would make up their minds. Either get to work on the store, or sell it to someone who would do something. Leaving it sit does no one any good.

Awful Complaints

AUTHOR: Kyle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 02, 2008

I don't mean to sound rude and all, but you relize the city of Dubuque is not that large. I live in downtown and it is about a 10 min drive to the complete other side of town. The hyvee on 20 is only about 5 mins from the locust st hyvee, and to complain about the traffic on 20 is just dumb. I laugh at the people that say Dubuque has heavy traffic. I've never had any trouble with the traffic here. I guess my favorite comment is when people refer to rush hour traffic as heavy. It's not even that bad. People here think they live in such a huge city with a ton of traffic. I can see many of them have never been introduced to real city traffic. Now I grew up in Chicago so I suppose I am expecting more then I will ever see in this city, but I still think their are people that over react and try to drive like they think there in the big city. In the end, I guarentee no matter where you live in this place, their is a store to buy your food at with in a 5 to 10 min drive.

tearing down the old building and putting a new larger building

AUTHOR: Jesse - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 21, 2004

Well, it looks like they're finally going to do something with the site. They're planning on tearing down the old building and putting a new larger building with a gas station up.

They must be doing something because I have seen people working on the store, and they put a sign up saying that a Hy-Vee would be coming soon.
