In this rebuttal I am going to deal with what I agree, and what I disagree with Matt about regarding this particular report.

What I disagree with:

I understand Matt is saying he talked to reputable specialists who advise against water based vacuum machines.  I take a cold scientific approach to everything I examine.  I disagree with the claim that water based vacuum machines are worse than bag, and dry vacuum machines on basic fundamental scientific grounds.  

Yes it's true if you're using a water based vacuum machine to clean your home environment, you definitely would not want to drink that water, or leave it sitting out because of the mold and mildew that will develop. However, I recommend a water based vacuum machine hands down over a bag, or dry vacuum machine any day of the century!  

Why? Because basic science tells us that when dust, and debris is trapped into water, that is much better for your indoor environment than using a dry filter vacuum, or a bag vacuum because when one uses those types of cleaning machines those will spew dust back into the air, and that's regardless of whether you're using a low end one from Eureca or Hoover, or an over priced one like Filter Queen.

Further, and just as bad, with dry vacuum, bag machines, when you're emptying the bag, or changing the filter, or emptying the canister, that dust is going back into the air, and that defeats the purpose of cleaning.

So for those reason I fervently disagree with anyone, and I mean anyone who be it a lay person, or a so called expert who would make such an unscientific claim, that is really off the wall.  A water based cleaning machine is much healthier than one that will spew the dust back into the air, and involves cones, bags, or dry canisters to have to clean, or dispose off because when you're cleaning or disposing of those dirt filled filter cones, or emptying a dry canister full of dirt, and lint, and debris, that is going back into your air!  That is making your cleaning effort in vein.

What I agree with:

I agree with Matt about the shady business practices of companies like Rainbow, and Hyla, and no argument from me what so ever on the issue of price gouging!  Those companies are indeed engaging in price gouging, and those companiesseriously, seriously need to be check on that, or be put out of business!  No question about the fact that they are ripping off the public!  And what really makes my blood boil is when a low-income person on Social Security gets ripped off by these companies!

As I said before I do indeed recommend a water based cleaning machine hands down any day of the century over any type of dry vacuum machine especially one that uses bags, or filters that have to be replaced.

The machine I have for my personal use in my residence is a Big Green Machine by Bissell.  That is a water based vacuum machine just like Rainbow, or Hyla, with the big difference being, the Bissell Machine is a fraction of the price of Rainbow, or Hyla or any of that category of machine.  

The Bissell Big Green Machine runs about $300.00, You can get that machine from Best Buy, or I imagine any place that sells vacuum machines in general, Bissell is a major brand, so you would be hard pressed to find a retailer that does not sell all of their machines or could not order one for you if they don't stock it.

Unlike those price gouging companies like Hyla, and Rainbow, The Bissell Big Green Machine comes with every attachment that exists included.  One of the things I find very offensive about companies like Rainbow, and Hyla is they have the audacity to charge extra for the wet cleaning attachment for shampooing while they're charging criminal level prices for the machines to begin with.  The Bissell Machine comes all dry cleaning, and wet cleaning attachments for shampooing and what have included in the box.  The only way you spend extra money for any attachments for the Bissell Machine is if you break one of them, and have to replace it.

Are machines like Rainbow, and Hyla better than the Bissell Big Green? I don't know it's hard to say. Those companies claim that their motors will last for decades, whether or not that's true, who knows.  Do they have better suction, I am inclined to doubt that, because suction does not vary from one vacuum machine to another that much.  What I do know for sure is this, a water based vacuum machine does certainly have better suction than a dry vacuum machine of any kind, as long as you don't fill the water in the collection tank to high. 

The Bissell machine is a very good machine, it's been serving me well.  When I got a used chair from a thrift store, and that chair was filthy (as used furniture from thrift stores tends to be) when I got done shampooing that chair with my Bissell Machine, that chair from that point on, and still to this point looks like a brand new chair.

The Bissell does have 2 cloth filters that need to be cleaned periodically, and you will need to wash the collection tank when done using.  Make sure you have it set properly for how you're using it, if you're using for dry vacuuming, make you have set in that mode, if you're using for wet vacuuming/shampooing, make sure you have it set in that mode.

If you do decide to get the Bissell Machine, I recommend getting from a place where you can get an extended warranty for it, due to the practice of planned obsolescence which all manufacturers engage in. An extended from Best Buy for example will cost about $40.00, it's worth it.  In the event the machine quits working the retailer will replace it with a brand new machine, and recycle your old one.  Best Buy's extended warranties on vacuum machines are good for 4 years, and are renewable one time.

In Summery:

I firmly disagree with the claims (regardless of who's making those claims) that a dry vacuum machine is better than a water based vacuum machine on scientific grounds, and I firmly stand behind my position on that!

I do agree that companies like Rainbow, and Hyla are engaging in Price Gouging, are ripping off the public, and those kind of companies need to be either checked for that business practice, or put out of business!

Unfortunately, the only water based vacuum machine on the market that I am aware at this time that is not outrageously priced like Rainbow, and Hyla is the Bissell Big Green Machine which I am an owner of.

However, The Bissell Machine is a fraction of the price of Hyla, Rainbow, or any of those other door to door vacuum machines, at $300.00, you can get that machine at I imagine any place that sells Bissell in general, since Bissell is major brand, and a company that has been around a long time.  

The Bissell machine unlike any of those door to door vacuum machines comes with every single attachment that exists for it included in the box!

On a final note, I do strongly recommend for everyone to have to have either the Bissell Big Green Machine or if another water based vacuum machine comes out on the market that's better than it, and no more expensive than get that machine.

Why? for all the reasons I have already mentioned, plus one equally as important reason.  It is nice to be able to do your own shampooing of your carpeting, hard floor space, and furniture, without having to hire one of those over priced cleaning services, or rent a machine from a hardware store, or grocery store and have to go through the hassle of returning it the next day, and you only get the use of that machine for one day.  When you own this type of machine, you can do not only your standard dry vacuuming, you can do your shampooing any time you want, and you control what is used for the wet cleaning.

That is why I personally would not trade my Bissell machine for anything else, except maybe one of those Hyla machines at a drastically reduced price!
