My name is Kenyetta (Kemca2@morgan.edu) I and I was advised to email this department about my student loan dispute. I went to I.A.D.T International Academy of Design & Technology Pittsburgh in 2004. To begin, this is a "for profit" school and I am disputing the student loan because I feel that I was coursed, manipulated and cheated into joining this institution. I have tried to handle this dispute on my own, by contacting the institution and the loan servicer directly with no success. The school in question started by harassing me as a minor via phone, emailing and postal service on a regular basis. I was assured that the Institution was accredited and that all my work would be transferrable to a community or four year college. IADT Pittsburgh did not require a guardian at any point for securing my spot and moving me from Baltimore to Pittsburgh, which should have been a red flag. Once I made it to the school I was moved into an abandoned building that was under construction with many other students. After, I was told that my schooling would be covered fully by Financial Aid at which I would not pay back (Due to the fact that it was my first year college & I came from poverty level household). However, after nearly a year of schooling (leaving once due to sickness derived from the living conditions mentioned above) I was made aware of the truths about IADT. I found out that the school was not in fact accredited and it was not recognized by any official Colleges in the World. At that point I decided that it was best for me to leave at once! Then I was under that impression that I had lost a years’ worth of financial aid, only to find out recently that I was in fact being placed under many loans without acknowledgement. I believe that the staff were fully aware of the tactics in place to secure funding from unaware students. (1) By manipulating/forging student signatures (2) By having students sign documents with providing them an opportunity to read them. I currently have several student loans from accredited Institutions which has enabled me to obtain an Associates and Bachelor’s degree. However, I don’t not believe I should be held responsible for these loans because these were not entered into on good faith.
