On May 26th, 2012 I bought a can of AC Pro because my vehicle's AC wasn't cooling like it should. This product is a can with a gauge that tells you step by step how to recharge your vehicle's AC unit. I followed the instructions exactly, but the gauge didn't even get into the area it was supposed to reach to recharge the AC. I ran to the store to get a part for a different vehicle and had driven less than 5 miles when I smelled something hot while running the AC. Took it in to Firestone who said the AC compressor was ruined. They estimated the cost of repairs/replacement to be $1,500.

Since this had to be a direct result of using the AC Pro product, I tried to contact IDQ USA (the maker) to tell them what happened. Here is where the fun starts. Unless you still have the product, you will not find a phone number for them. When you go to their website, all you get is a contact form that you have to email to them. And then wait, and wait, and wait until they get around to contacting you. If you call them, you will get a message askign you to leave a message. So when Ginger finally contacted me, she asked me to send them the product can to test and see if the gauge was faulty.

So I sent them the can, a copy of the receipt, and a copy of the estimate form Firestone to repair the AC,  to their Garland, Texas address. I had to call them again and leave a message asking if they had received the can. Ginger said yes, but never said if they found fault with the gauge. Then she said that she talked to their tech person who said to go have the AC system purged of freon and have it recharged and she promised that would work. I told her that the compressor was ruined and she said, and I quote "Well they were probably just trying to get more money out of you by saying the compressor is ruined". I asked her for a fax number to fax her the bill for that and she gave me a number to a fax machine that will never answer no matter how many times you try to fax them.

So I took the vehicle to another repair shop, and a third repari shop just to be sure. And they all said that the compressor was ruined. There was no freon left in it to purge because the AC Pro product had blown the seals out of the compressor. I ended up paying to have the compressor replaced and the AC recharged out of my own pocket and IDQ USA refuses to reimburse me (can't get them on the phone or get their fax to answer) for the damages caused to my vehicle. Damages that never would have happened had I not bought their worthless product. Here it is, July 27th, 2 months later, and I have had nothing but excuses and the run around from this company!

Likely a Pre-exisitng Condition

A/C compressors are sensitive things and the fact that you needed to fill the system with more than one can means that you had a good leak. Since the pumps lubricating oil circulates with the refrigerant (r134a) a leak, depending on it location, can cause the oil to be lost early on while there is still enough pressure for the system to run.

Compressors, when run low on oil, can cause “junk” and debris to be introduced to the closed system. When you added additional refrigerant, there are several failure modes, all of which are just results of pre-existing conditions, which can happen. These failures would likely happen without regard to the brand (IDQ in this case) of refrigerant used.

Bottom line: Adding the IDQ product likely precipitated the failure of you compressor, but the IDQ product itself was not responsible for that failure.

Nothing but more run around!

AUTHOR: Unhappy Consumer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Ok, so here we are into another month and nothing but being jerked around further.

IDQ USA sent me a check for less than $100 to reimburse me for the cost of the can of their AC Pro product, and what I paid Firestone (the first place I took it to)  to tell me what was wrong with the AC compressor. It also said if I cashed it, it was considered payment in full. Needless to say, I am not cashing it!

Sent IDQ USA a letter in response asking to be reimbursed for the $500 that it cost to buy a used AC compressor and the labor to change it. Also included copies of the receipt for the compressor and the labor to prove that it had been done and that I paid for it out of my pocket already.

Now, weeks after the work was completed, they expect me to magically come up with the old compressor and ship that to them, which means MORE money out of my pocket and further delays in being reimbursed. I was not given the old compressor!

They already have the can and the gauge that I returned to them so they could "test it" and now they want the compressor that their product ruined so they can "test it". Now I am sure that they just wanted these items so that they have them and I have no proof that their AC Proproduct ruined my AC compressor. No proof except the word of three different, independant repair shops who looked at it and said that the AC Pro product blew the seals right out of the AC compressor.

DO NOT buy this product or deal with this company unless you want to take the risk of ruining your AC compressor and then have to pay out of your own pocket to have it repaired because IDQ USA couldn't care less if your car is damaged by their product.

Take it to a reputable auto repair shop and let them charge your air conditioner instead!
