Purchased IGO's Juice 70, universal home/auto/plane for my Dell Latitude. This is a $120 converter. I upgraded to a new Dell Inspiron 1150. Dell changed their configuation for converter input (probably to sell their own universal converter) on the new Insiron laptop. I emailed IGO and was told that a new tip was in the process.
After several months I again contacted IGO and was informed that they no longer support the new Dell Laptops. I am now stuck with a $120 converter that is useless. Dell says they are sorry, IGO says they are sorry. I think this is one sorry mess. I have informed all my friends that IGO is a worthless company to do business with, and they do not support what they advertise.

Question? simple matter of just designing a new plug and tossing it into the box

Bob,
I am not sure what the complaint is for IGO? It is possible that they made a claim that this system will never be obsolete and I didn't see it.
Technology changes so fast. If Dell is using proprietary, non-standard parts as a way to control peripherials being used that aren't sold by Dell, then I would think that the arguement would be with Dell.
IGO can make a universal adapter that works on everything that is on the market... but when a company puts out a product that is unlike anything before then can IGO be blamed?
The adapter worked as advertised when used with the computer you had, but when you upgraded to a new computer (probably sold after IGO designed and sold their adapter)it doesn't work. Right?
I know it seems as though it should be a simple matter of just designing a new plug and tossing it into the box. However, if a company is going to sell anything in America that is electronic and for computers, they will really have to go through a UL-950 Information Systems Technology safety standard inspection and approval. This is a long and costly process... things can't just be jury rigged.
If a tv comes out with a non-standard video input I am not going to blame the DVD player manufacturer. This is what is seems like to me if I understand your complaint.
