I got suckered in also, as reported to RipoffReport by many others. Suddenly, a $19.99 charge shows up on my bank statement. After over an hour on the phone (mostly on hold) and talking to two different people, I did get my account cancelled and an agreement to refund my $19.99. The last person I talked to, Kevin, was really quite understanding and responsive.

What makes this situation more upsetting, was that I was referred to Stamps.com when the USPS was having trouble with their online system in December 2008. I've written to the USPS as a customer and taxpayer to ask them to stop making such referrals, at least until Stamps.com changes their marketing practices and improves their customer service wait times.

Approved by the USPS in 1999, Stamps.com is the leading provider of Internet-based postage solutions. Stamps.com is up to 80% cheaper than a traditional postage meter and serves more than 400,000 satisfied customers. These customers have printed more than $1 billion in postage using Stamps.com.

USPS website:

Stamps.com is a fast, easy, and convenient way to manage all your postage needs. Print postage and mailing labels or send Priority Mail packages and letters right from your computer-24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sign up for Stamps.com's no-risk trial offer and receive $25 in free postage, a free digital scale, and a mailing supplies kit. It's an $80 value!

The post office reaps ALL the benefits of postage used on Stamps.com. They only get their fees out of it. The post office will not stop allowing SDC and any other vendors (and there are alot) to provide pc postage. Even if there is a monthly fee.
