When I installed this software (cost $129) for a friend he wanted to know if it could be networked. I looked at his manual that came with the software and it said it was.

We went out and bought the cable and hub and network adaptors. The manual even told me how to load it on the other workstation. Guess what, it did not work. I called the company and they said that I needed to buy the network module for $75. I stated that it did not say that in the manual, but did say I can use this software over a network. Tired of dealing with the stupidity I said fine we will pay. Well they informed me that since he was offered to continue the support for $75 every 6 months in the past, and refused it (he didn't need it since everything worked) that he could not buy the module unless he bought the support as well.

The module itself does not come with any support. So after some more arguing, I said fine for $75 more we will buy the support. Total is now $150.

Here is where it gets good. I am now told that since we did not keep the support going since he purchased the product, he was called 3 times prior and refused, that he has to pay another $50 of a reinstatement fee...Total now is $200. I can buy the product new for $204 with the network module and 6 months support. They said that they would not waiver the fee. They also stated it would not be fair to everyone else that has been paying this fee all along as they also get updates. It neither states this in the manual or website about defaulting on support. It does state however on the website about the network addition cost. I found this out later.

I told them that it is not my fault that their customer can't go on the website and get the updates for free. They said well after January 3rd 2003 you will not be able to do that. I called on December 26th or 27th and said then I should be grandfathered. She said no. Guess what? Its January 23rd 2003 and I am still downloading updates.

I also never heard of a company that makes you buy support before your can use their product. I believe if you have a problem and they charge for support then pay the support if you need it.

Their web site states:
CONTINUING SUPPORT AND UPDATES:
InvoMax provides an inexpensive method to maintain your software and support. Every 6 months you will be offered an updated CD for $75 or $125. The updated CD includes the latest InvoMax program as well as updated vehicle files and updated catalog tables for parts and labor. When you purchase the CD it automatically extends your tech support to the next CD release. Isn't it refreshing to buy a great product at a great price and then find out that there really are no strings attached? Our terrific prices even include a great deal on long term tech support and program updates!

The real stinker is after you have been using this software for 2-3 years and you have all your customers in the database, its not like I can get another program. It would be too inconvenient. So now I am stuck with all the network gear and a company that wont fulfill their agreement.
