Where to begin, after joining the forums pursuant to the membership instuctions send $79.00 for membership and another $70 or so dollars for a Criminal Warrants Search (3.12.04) I began to doubt the credibility of the and the structure of the organization due to the shallow responses and the questions posed by some of the "senior members" as well as the script like content of messages I received and the inability of employees to provide a last name for future reference I began to do some deeper digging (go figure, on a PI site).

What I found was all negative, the only positive comments stem from a few members and rarely if ever deal with the accusations. Comments from the Oregon Board of Investigators, Canadian BBB, Idaho BBB, and other PI training sites all suggested a shifty organization. After pasting these comments in a message asking respectfully for an explanation I was not only denied one I was immediately (within hours) denied access to the site, sparking a month long email exchange bouncing back disclaimer ridden emails that have to this date accomplished nothing but prolonging my "CODE OF ETHICS VIOLATION" case.

I have inserted an excerpt of the Forum Rules I am allegedlly in violation of;
While we encourage lively discussion, we will not tolerate personal attacks, disrespectful comments, or disingenuous, or sarcastic remarks with the appearance to incite toward any person (including their contributions and posts on the forums) or any organization. Any person disparaging another forum member or organization in this regard, or violating forum rules and/or promoting any views that are not in HARMONY with the Code of Ethics or Mission Statement, may have their comments either edited or removed without notice. Any future incident thereafter may result in that member being permanently removed from the forum.

I have added the capped "HARMONY" to show the vague nature by which the rules are defined and so easily broken.

It is my opinion that the individual responsible has created a bubble of ignorance using false titles and an advanced forum system (recently upgraded a week after my posts) to maintain the appearance of a vast organization and utlizes the enthusiasm of new members to fuel the validity of the organization.

Furthermore, to date none of my concerns have been adressed and have led me to report the organization to file a report with the FBI. I am ashamed and infuriated by this situation and will not rest to this is resolved.

#11 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Oh, I forgot

AUTHOR: Sara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 28, 2006

I forgot to mention I haven't worked there for a few years. It was after my boyfriend and I got married. My husband drove out with a truck from Wisconsin. After a while I really quit because the drive and the gas was getting to be too much. We decided to go back to Wisconsin.

The FBI rumor was just that, only a rumor because someone was trying to make a stink about what IPIU has provided all along.

As for Jeremy Lancaster, I found out he is not the owner. I worked for a "David" in the office, and IPIU has three offices that are listed on their home page, and the office I worked for was only a support office. The owner is listed at their home page.

Sorry for the confusion. If anyone wants to know a lot more about IPIU, their own web site has the names of legitimate people who can be contacted.

#10 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Horrible, but true

AUTHOR: Sara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 31, 2006

I would love to tell you all about IPIU and how everything works. Unfortunately, Jeremy Lancaster is a very intelligent and sneaky man who required employees to sign privacy forms stating how we could never talk our job at the beginning of employment.

I thought to myself, "Oh, it's a law office, (because that is what the ad in the paper stated), of course they have privacy issues they need to protect." Now of course, I know better, but what I don't know is how much those papers I signed still hold me to silence?

If anyone knows the truth in this situation and how much I am actually able to say, I would LOVE to say alot more about my months as an IPIU employee.

All I can say right now is that when I quit working there, it was because I couldn't believe what I was doing could be right and legal, no matter what Jeremy Lancaster said to us. I'm so glad to hear he has been reported to the FBI.

STAY AWAY FROM IPIU!

No more website for IPIU

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 06, 2005

Elizabeth, what happened? The website that IPIU had no longer exist. I went to Google to see if I had the wrong website address. I searched for International Private Investigator Union and found that I had the right website address; however, it no longer exist. What happened? You say you know Michael and Ann Marie Ryan and Chris, so you can tell us what happened.

You say that a "DTI employee" told you that DTI was behind "scamming" IPIU. Tell us more about that.

You say that the "real people" and their "phone numbers" are printed on the IPIU website. What website are you talking about now?

I have been trying to nail IPIU for over a year. Please contact ripoff and see if you can get my email address from them. I am now registered with ripoff. Let's hope this works, or else it's like the IPIU scam.

DTI and their employees are scamming IPIU. Contact me for the real truth.

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 18, 2004

I know who Michael is from New Jersey who wrote a positive IPIU comment elsewhere on this site. I know of Ann Marie Ryan who wrote for IPIU. And I know what Chris has written elsewhere is true too because his PI agency is on the IPIU site.

The rest of what has been written here by complainers is pure nonsense. The names are as phony as their intentions to help people here.

I also know that DTI employees are scamming IPIU. It's IPIU who is the victim here and DTI is behind it all. A DTI employee told me so.

I have read the truth elsewhere and have personally spoken to those on the phone who are real. The real people and their phone numbers are printed on the IPIU web site. The people who are scamming IPIU here are not real people. But I am, and I invite anyone to notify the editor of this site to release my email address to call me!

I want to file a class action suit against IPIU

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 10, 2004

All of you are very correct in your views on IPIU. I am in the process of trying to find a lawyer who will represent us in a class action suit against IPIU. The lawyers I have contacted want to know that more than 10 of us (who I have on my list) are involved in this endevor.

It is so hard to share emails on IPIU. IN FACT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! My friends and I started a web site and were closed down by Jeremy. We need someone who has their own site (sorry if that's the not the correct word, but I am mostly computer illiterate). If anyone will start a site, and Rip Off will let it be printed, PLEASE LET US KNOW!!!!!

I am asking Rip Off to help me in getting people's emails. If I am successful, you will be able to contact me through Rip Off. Let's hope I am successful!

You are right ..This company is guilty of postal fraud because they offer a sevice that they don't provide and they do it over the postal service

AUTHOR: N - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 23, 2004

I was a member of IPIU and got my money back. My IPIU friends and I are in the middle of a law suit against Jeremy and his wife Jean. If you would like to share your information and join the law suit, please contact me. e-mail EDitor@ripoffreport.com and ask that they forward your information to me. Write what your intentions are and tell them I am N from Massachusetts and rebuttal from rerpot #90004 REBUTTAL TITLE: You are right ..This company is guilty.

CLICK here to see why Rip-off Report, as a matter of policy, deleted either a phone number, link or e-mail address from this Report.

If you have any envelope from IPIU, and any letter(s) they have sent you, please take it to your local postmaster (no one else) and tell them your story about postal fraud. Have them make a copy of the envelope, and the letters, and ask for the Postal Fraud form # 8165 and fill it out.

This company is guilty of postal fraud because they offer a sevice that they don't provide and they do it over the postal service, as well as the internet. We can at least get them this way.

Please don't forget that Jeremy's wife, Jean, is also an owner. Make sure you put her name along with his on the postal fraud form.

Regards,

The only jobs that IPIU offers is mystery shopping, and anti piracy assignments which they make a profit on

AUTHOR: Debbie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 06, 2004

Hi Boz,

From the information I have gathered, yes the admins are that of one or two people. Jeremy Lancaster is behind all of this and the Owner of IPIU. Jeremy has been busted for a limo scam in Idaho, so this is par for the course with him. Please note: there is no real legal affairs with IPIU, it is just a name to intimidate people including job boards and other forums. IPIU's job ad has been taken off of careerbuilder and hotjobs due to complaints and proof of a scam.

In the responses to the members of IPIU, you will notice that the questions are never answered to point. Canned responses are given, they claim to have 20 - 30,000 members but there are only about 1000 or so. Beware that some of the members are that of Jeremy Lancaster and his clan. The names that have been connected to being Jeremy are David Copeland, Robert Donovan, Sara Livingston, Julia Ann Stewart just to name some.

The only jobs that IPIU offers is mystery shopping, and anti piracy assignments which they make a profit on. The local and national jobs are nothing more than ads found in local or online newspapers career section. So that thread on the forum is made up. Michael Harris is another suspected alias for Jeremy Lancaster.

The fact that members can't communicate outside of the forums is a big factor to knowing something isn't right with this organization. They promise to let it happen in level 4 forums, but it doesn't happen and never will.

The IPIU is out of Montana not Canada. Another thing about the admins of the forum, they all have names connected to authors, artists, and actors. One is even a porn star.

Good luck,

Update, you are most correct in your assumption.

AUTHOR: Boz T - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 05, 2004

Hi it is Bozo

I have arrived back from several days in the stacks of the IPIU and I must agree that you are most correct in your assumption.

The main thing that jumps out is that for such a huge outfit which implies that it is able to give out assignments, there seems to be no physical address, main campus or suburban space.

Also the forums seem the bear the writing styles of the same person or persons. There are also big gaps some posts. For instance One post says this woman had 20 "assignments" It had six pages of replies from hopeful students, but after searching for more posts by this ball of fire, I only found a total of four and each was related to the "20" assignment letter which, BTW, had been edited for content until it seemed the woman had made huge $ from jobs of work just tossed her way by the IPIU.

I am not sure whether to go back and give them Hell or just leave. I will keep digging on my own.

I think someone is trying to draw you in.

AUTHOR: Boz - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 03, 2004

Hi, it is Texino,

I had to look around a bit to find exactly what you were talking about, but when I did and visited the forums many bells and whistles started to rattle my empty head.

Without even reading the substance it seems obvious that all the positive post are either put up jobs or outright lies.

You often see this sort of rhetoric in MLM schemes. I have not looked far enough into this IPIU to see if they are selling "affiliation" but I will.

You are sounding to me like an honest person who was maybe trying to realize some gainful and interesting sort of employment. I am really afraid that this outfit may be just trying to clean your clothes, so to speak.

So what do we do? Well, maybe I will visit this site and see what sort of rules they may be breaking. If I can find a way to help you or cause the villains so minor difficulty, I will update.

I just want to let you know that someone is seeing that you have been taken. Please don't expect a miracle, but know that I will try something.

Texino- an independent person
