Both my son and my daughter decided a few years ago that they wanted to attend ITT Technical Institute.  Even though I tried to talk them into attending our local community college, they decide to forge ahead with ITT Tech.  The financial staff there will get any and every student loan, government or private, they can in order for the student to be able to attend their school.

Some of the loans were with Sallie Mae and the Dept of Education but many, too many, were with private lenders such as Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union.  My son didn't finish at ITT Tech but was $70,000 in debt when he left there.  Many of the loans are with private lenders who do not offer deferment or forebearance, even if the person is attending a different college.

Student loans are bought and sold constantly which makes it difficult to know which financial institution now has the student loan.  For all the person knows, several companies may be trying to collect on the same student loan debt.

Now both of my adult children, who have children of their own, are trying to deal with many harassing phone calls and figure out how the heck they are going to pay on their incredible amounts of student loan debt.  I'm very worried about both of my kids as well as the well-being of their families.  I've checked into loan consolidations and just cannot find any way to help them with the many private student loans each of them have.

If you are absolutely positive, without a doubt, going to finish school at ITT Tech, then go into debit for tens of thousands of dollars.  If you're not 100% sure you will, my advice is don't even go there.
