My husband and I saw an ad on TV about JK Harris. We were facing a huge federal and state tax debt. My husband owned a restaurant that was a casualty of the hard economic times in our region. My husband called the number and was given an appointment right here in our town.

He called on a Wednesday and was given a Friday morning appointment. The guy that met with my husband rents a well appointed office in one of the bank buildings. My husband asked questions and the guy said he was a Tax Consultant and explained the plan to assist us. The next meeting was set for the following Tuesday. I was supposed to make photocopies of a bunch of records and be ready to pay $1,900 for a retainer. I met with the guy. Talked, asked questions, he had answers, signed papers, and reviewed the copies of documents I bought. I handed over a cashier's check for $1,900 which I put on a credit card. We were already being threatened with tax collection and I did not want levies to be placed on our wages. This was back in 2002.


I called the number the guy gave us to follow-up a few weeks later. We had a new consultant and she thought it very funny the guy out in the field called himself a tax consultant. She was having a belly laugh and I am starting to panic a little because none of the copies I gave this guy had been processed. The woman told me to fax them to her. I did. Heard nothing. Called a few weeks later. They claimed to be so busy they had not had time to review my case.

Several more supposed consultants and numerous times of faxing 100 plus pages of documents and nothing was done.

In the mean time I am still sending them payments on my $3,000 bill. I stopped paying the bill with $1,800 left on it because they had not done anything. I had a state tax levy and garnishment at that point. The finance company that JK Harris works with started calling and sending nasty letters. The person calling claimed they would not proceed to work on my case until I paid it off.

I negotiated my own settlement with the state and paid them off in 2005. I am still paying the IRS after I had to hire a local tax attorney to negotiate with them because they were about to levy also.

JK Harris hires local sales reps that travel from town to town spinning lies to people. People who can least afford to waste money on junk like this. Working people who are really looking for a way to negotiate with the carpet baggers.

JK Harris people would always sound so shocked and dismayed that the IRS was still sending me notices. They insisted that I fax them to their office and they would be speaking to the IRS. I was told to tell the IRS that I was being represented by JK Harris and to give the IRS person their phone number.


I have so many names I can not recall or even list them all. Probably not there anymore anyway.

Go to a legit local Enrolled Agent or Tax Attorney in your local area. One with a real office if you can not negotiate with the tax entities yourself.
