Took possession of Schooner Toketee USCG#554078 in Acapulco Mexico in January 2016 after agreeing to finish paying for within six months in exchange for free and clear title. My family’s personal property and my tools were to be returned to me after his arrival in Key West, Florida. Kanafoski misrepresented himself as a licensed captain and a competent sailor. He claimed he had steady work with ATT as a foreman. The little money he eventually sent me was almost enough to pay for the food aboard and nothing else. He claims the boat sunk in a storm but there are no witnesses and he is a sociopath and compulsive liar. The replacement cost for an equivalent vessel would be well in excess of $100,000.00 Do not trust this character under any circumstances, he will rob you blind

Ok so since my last update Jan (John) Kanafoski has been charged with felony charges in Key West and fled the country by jumping bail on his $85,000 bond by moving his fake charter scam to Bahamas.
He now goes under the name R/V Scorcey, and is advertising scientific research capabilities. I suppose he is trying to cash in on funding he can get from unsuspecting educational establishments now.
Please beware he and his associates Ray and Phil are not legitimate mariners any more than Jan (John) is and they have a trail of misdeeds and shady dealings in their wake.
Do NOT send them any money or encourage anyone to work for them.
If you see them please report them to the nearest police or customs officer.

Jan”John”S. Kanafoski has come back online and has managed to get his hands on another boat using proceeds from illegally disposing of our boat Toketee. He has named this new boat “Ocean Endeavor “ and calls it a Research Vessel hoping to fool people that are looking for the ship run by University of Rhode Island. Kanafoski is a fraud and is dangerously incompetent at sea. I can’t stress enough how far people should distance themselves from his activities.
