We traded in a very high quality .4 ct Diamond for a new diamond ring and Jareds.  They gave us far less than we paid for the original diamond, explaining that they could only give us the wholesale value, but we took it knowing it would be difficult to sell a diamond ourselves.  When we got the new ring, they had totally messed it up - stretching the gold very thin to size it.  We asked for our money back and our diamond back.  They gave us our money back, but said they no longer had our trade in diamond "but we could have any diamond in the store worth the $1200 trade-in value they had given us."  They would not give us the cash and they knew that any diamond int heir store for $1200 was worth far less than the diamond they got from us.  Total rip-off.  Their return policy said the would give us our original diamond or "another diamond of comparable value".  Their way of judging comparable value is wholesale on what we give them and retail on what they return to us.  We estimate this diamond is worth about $600 less than the diamond we gave them.  I would compare the whole process of doing business with Jared as similar to doing business with a no-name used car lot on the bad side of town.
