I was scammed by John Robert Powers(JRP) of Denver. I am a single mom of 2 children, ages 3 and 7. My 7 year old was "picked" by JRP associates as having "lots of talent", but would benefit from their classes. The tuition would be $1980 for 20 classes. The staff assured us that with one audition and commercial it would pay for itself! Since I did not have the money they would "work with me on the payment" They even promised us a free photo shoot worth $395 after we completed 75% of our classes and paid all the money due. We signed up and my daughter started attending the classes on Saturdays for 2 hours. The classes were overfilled with 4-7 year olds, loud, chaotic, between 15-30 per class with one instructor and an assistant. The asssistant and the teacher DID NOT have any expertise to teach I found out later...and esentially it was us that were required to learn the monologues.
I was less than impressed with the classes for the high price! By the time I realized how bad the classes were I was not eligible for my refund. After our 3rd to last class I signed up for our "free photo shoot" this was June 12, 2007. I waited a few weeks, no calls or any follow up. I called Susan twice left messages, with no return. I finally spoke with her early August 2007. She asked if we needed more classes..I told her no and we would like the free photo shoot, I had in writing they promised us when we signed up. She said OK well the "extra fees" which were not mentioned anywhere in the paper I signed would be $775 for the photographer, $325 for the prints, and $65.00 for makeup. There is nothing free about it!!!! I understand paying for our prints, but this shoot is NOT FREE, they promoise it to you as an incentive to sign up. Its all a BIG SCAM we have found better and much more cost effective classes at our local performing arts center. Please do your research!
PS We did not even go on one audition the 20 weeks we were there!
The ones that were scheduled were "cancelled" We also were chosen to go to IMTA which is $5000 a child!! We did not go..and glad we did not!

Back in the fall of '07 I was debating whether or not I should enroll my 7 year old into JRP Denver. I did read your complaint on this report and it made me feel a little uneasy, but then I did my research. JRP Denver is lisenced with State of Colorado where all teachers are fully backround checked and qualified, I also checked with the Better Business Bureau where JRP Denver location is perfectly clean.
So I went ahead and signed my daughter. It was one of the best decisions I ever made! I think the big difference between when I signed my daughter and when you signed yours is the new National Director, Sarah. She was very upfront with my family that there were no guarentees for work, but that she guarenteed private auditions on a Bi-weekly basis with LA agents and casting directors. My child has not only Auditioned every other weekend, but has also received several work opportunities in the past 10 months.
The classes have done wonderful things for my child's confidence and her abilties. According to parents, since the new National Director, Sarah, has been there, everything has completly changed. My child has met with top agents and casting directors from Disney, Nick, MGM, and many other companies. Sarah brings out only the best form LA, and I know this because of my personal experience. That fact that my child has private auditions with people form LA on a Bi-weekly basis has been huge for her. Sarah also brings out celebs, which has been great for my entire family. The National Director does not offer Free photo shoots, only wonderful training and opportunities.
