My story is similiar to many I've read on here. I hope that someone reads these and benefits. I certainly hope those of you who have reported to www.badbusinessbureau.com also make a report to the Better Business Bureau.

Of course, my breaks were making a slight grinding sign, a notification that my pads had worn down to the metal. The initial $99.98 special that Just Brakes advertises sounds enticing. (Note to self: What seems to good to be true usually is.) Well, after the Just Brakes boys in Kingwood observed my brakes, they determined that there was over $500 worth of work needed.

and YES, i too was informed that it was essential to do all this work to ensure that my brakes always work properly. I was also given a scarey story and shown a picture of a man's car that had wrecked due to break problems after not following the advice of the Kingwood Just Brakes. I was told that my roter was burned up and could not be cut because I'd "ruin" their machine. I bought a new roter.

More drama played out as I was informed that my calipers needed to be rebuilt. This is, of course, similiar to the other victims on this site. I refused to do the extra work.

However, I was informed that I needed "shims" so that, according to Mutt and Jeff, my car wouldn't "wake up the whole neighborhood" or "sound like a school bus". So, $56 more dollars and I added "shims" that sounded like something from the middle east.

I brought this car back to Just Brakes approximately 2 days after the work was completed. My brakes, even with my great "shims" were squeaking like a school bus. There was also a slight chimming noise when I began to break. I was informed by someone we'll call "Tom" (man who I assumed did the brakes) that I needed to let about 500 miles wear the brakes in. He even test drove and when asked if he heard the squeeking, commented, "not really".

I brought the car back again on a Saturday. Referred to here as Jeff, the original sales tactical master (or manager of the store), said that it would be hours before I could get the car in and who knows how long it would be to actually work on it. I told him I'd bring it back some other time.

I called today (October 30, 2003) and told good ole Jeff that I wanted to bring the car in. This is where Mutt enters the picture. He immediately boasted about being the one that worked on my car originally and that he was moved up to some management type of positon. Mighty Mutt took the car. About 20 minutes later, another man came to me (outside on a beautiful day) and told me that he needed to show me something about my car.

I walk back to discover that my wheel cover was broken. This man denies that he broke it. I could not phathom how this could have gone unnoticed by me and certainly did not want to call him a liar. I walked away and then only to reenter the main lobby where there is Mighty Mutt. Mutt was aware of the concern with the wheel cover before I entered. I told him that I was thinking and did not think that was like that before I arrived.

I told him that I knew this because I took pictures of my wheels today because of the "brake dust" that infested my wheel covers and I had planned to take my car to the carwash and the "dust" would have been removed and not been able to be seen so I took the pictures.

Once possible "evidence", such as pictures, was revealed, Mutt interrupted me by going out the side door and yelling to the guys to put all four tires back on. A disagreement ensued between Mutt and I after he told me he wouldn't deal with an irrate customer (had not seen irrate at this point) and that he was "throwing" me out of there.

Needless to say, my car is still under warranty and Mutt refused to do the work. Jeff was nowhere in sight. Mutt became concerned when he heard the word "picture". I may be driving on faulty brakes and am concerned about this.

I have contacted the Better Business Bureau in Dallas (headquarters for reporting on Just Brakes) via the email. However, I will also write a letter. I suggest others do the same. I have also contacted the Just Brakes customer service office and have not received a response.

I will keep informed. Please do not go to Just Brakes!!!

Some Managers for Just Brakes do not do crap!

AUTHOR: Elaine - (U.S.A.)

It is amazing that everyone that has a bad experience with one shop has to blame all of their shops. Individual shops do not always run exactly the same, some managers do not add parts that do not need to be replaced. I for one of several know of a manager that will not screw anyone, unless of course you tell him he does not know what he is talking about. WHICH ARE YOU ASE CERTIFIED?

There is a manager that has recieved alot of very highly recommended letters, referrals, praise his name is Corky and is transferred to several stores through out Houston. So as a recommmended refferal you should ask who is a very good, well experienced brake mechanic,,,,, he is now at the Bell Air store in Houston.

I follow him around because I trust him he has never screwed me or my friends. Yes, there are alot that just want the extra sales to boost their paychecks, but in turn you the consumer not specifying the names are in turn screwing the managers that are trying to help, and not take advantage of the consumer. Please everyone state the correct info. I will follow this manager for the rest of my vehicles lives, wether it be with Just Brakes or not.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

anyone interested in brake repair to just use a little common sense.

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

JB customer has our sympathies......

I am the owner of a competitive company of Just Brakes. I am NOT responding to this complaint to gain business in my store, but to assist anyone interested in brake repair to just use a little common sense.

1. Always check a company's Better Business Bureau rating BEFORE doing business with them.

2. Always try to use local companies where the owner is active in the business.
. Always try to use companies which are members of the BBB and the local Chamber of Commerce.

4. When comparing prices, compare apples-to-apples. Some shops use inferior parts.

5. Always use a national company.
Just Brakes does not meet any of these requirements.

I recently had an application from an ex-employee of the Just Brakes on Northpark. Under "reason for leaving" he wrote "Wanted me to lie to customers to get more money for work we never did". I hired him! He had enough integrity to give up his job to keep from lying to his customers. That's my kind of employee!
