An idividual owner of a truck put it for sale in craigslist at an unbelievable price. I emailed to confirm price and the individual whos email said justin kane said his son was in hospital and he needed the money. I was suspicous and emailed him that this was to good and had to be fake. He had ebay email me with a protective buyer deal and everything looked great. He also sent me a history report with Car Fax. I went to send the money to him and the money gram place looked up the fax number associated with the ebay email and it proved to be a fraud. Thank goodness for the Money gram place or I would have lost my money. I sent "justin Kane" a very explicit email telling him what he can do with the money I almost sent him. Please be wary of car deals on craigslist that seem too good to be true. He also goes by the name Viktoria Mascek. Do not trust an email from car fax or ebay if you did not request it yourself. It is crazy how good these scam artists can make a fake email look real.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

agreed but you should see this on every listing you view

I'm glad you didn't get ripped off but did you notice the craigslist warning when you view every post? it's even highlighted in yellow on the page.

Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, shipping, escrow, or any promise of transaction protection/certification/guarantee.

Again, glad you didn't get scammed.

Craigslist has nothing to do with Ebay!

That's the first thing that should have tipped you off. I've read about this "scam" on other reports, and I don't see how people believe it.

Craigslist is in NO WAY affiliated with Ebay. They are two separate entities entirely. Therefore, Ebay cannot guarantee a transaction through Craigslist, nor can they offer buyer protection for something that hasn't been purchased on Ebay.

That's like going to Wal-Mart and buying a DVD player, and them telling you that Circuit City will guarantee that it works. NOPE!

I urge everyone to be careful in their dealings with stuff like this. People will offer up the Ebay name, thinking because it's so widely known, people feel comfortable with it (like you did) and will go ahead with a transaction that admittedly, seems "too good to be true".
