I went shoe shopping the morning of july 16, 1986 at Montgomery Wards at pinellas square mall in pinellas park, fla. Later that afternoon I was tuning up my mother in laws car and needed some tune up parts so I stopped in at the local K Mart store on 66th street north and 49th ave. in st.petersburg, Fla.

I was curious how much k mart wanted for their boots so as I walked to the automotive dept which you had to walk thru the shoe dept to get to the automotive dept, I stopped, sat on the bench and pulled a boot simular to the ones I had purchased that morning and conicidently had worn that day.

After noting that I had gotten the better price at montgomery ward that morning, I placed the shoes back on the shelf and continued on to the automotive dept and got my tune up parts. I had notice a guy with a black hat like a derby hat and dark sunglasses watching me as I strolled out the front door and walked to my car. I got in the car and started the engine, and heard a voice say loudly "Sir !, Sir! , Im going to half to ask you to come back into the store!", I asked why? and he stated , "The boots you have on were stolen and I have you on video, the cops are on the way sir, please come back into the store!!!"

Well, at first I was pi**ed off because I knew that I had not stolen anything, I had a receipt for the tune up parts I had just purchased and the boots I had on the reciept was at home in the box laying on the table where I had just left it 20 minutes earlier So I shut off the engine and followed the guy back into the store to the office at the back of the store ,

In came the Kenneth City Police seargant who handcuffed me and read me my miranda. The guy was all smiles who accused me of the shoplifting crime, and making comments like, "Thought you would make it out of here huh?", The store manager was cussing at me!, I said "Before you take me down and book me officer you need to know one thing" He said whats that? I said "Well you might want to take off one of my boots and look inside what it says on the insole." He did so, it read "Montgomery ward". He un cuffed me, appologized and turned and walked out of the managers office.

They never offered an appology to this day. I highly recommend NOT shopping at k mart they wrong fully accused me of shoplifting, I DONT STEAL ! I wish I would have gotten an attorney at the time and sued them for wrong full arrest.

I know All About K-Mart's so-called Loss Prevention...

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 02, 2006

The plainclothes loss prevention agents in the old K-Marts in Irving, Texas had a quota system whereby you had to stop so many alleged shoplifters and get a certain number of arrests so people would know that you meant business.

Sounds like Barney Fife there was a little too enthuiastic about busting an innocent customer.

YOU NEED TO FILE A LAWSUIT ON THESE PEOPLE-- that is, if you haven't already.

I never worked for K-Mart. I was just a contract security company employee who patrolled the parking lot of the shopping center where they were located. And their "loss prevention" people were desperate to come to work for a PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD CONTRACTOR!!!!! We talked for a long time about how K-Mart cheated their employees! And their half-a*s security policies and procedures...

THAT'S how bad K-Mart treated their employees in the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex back in the 1980s!

You were expected to treat all K-MART employees, even managers like SHOPLIFTERS and people who if they had not stolen were going to steal...

K-Mart was supposed to have been managed in the 1980s by a CEO with ALLEGED Organized Crime connections who drained the profits so bad that the store went BANKRUPT. The most recent time it went bankrupt, I believe they had run that individual off and they brought in another guy --probably another loser, hopefully an honest one.

They started closing stores like crazy --including the one in Irving, Texas that I worked at and ALL of the ones in Austin , Texas. SEEMS that in a few stores, the in-house security was ALLEGEDLY HELPING their relatives, friends and family remove merchandise without paying for it. K-Mart was treating them like garbage, even worse than employees in Texas are usually treated...So they got their revenge!

Me, I never wanted to go into another K-Mart because the way they treated their employees MADE ME SICK! I heard they didn't pay the hospital bill for the security agent who saw loading dock employees allegedly taking out toys for their children because they had no money on K Mart wages to BUY toys otherwise and the Security agent got a major a*s kicking --broken jaw and legs and one arm and a kneecap. K-mart refused to pay a dime, said that the behavior "provoked" they guys on the dock. And that the security agent was a "malingerer!" The guy was in a WHEELCHAIR!They did not pay his emergency room bill, his medications, rehabilitation or ZIP!

So much for doing a good job.

I met this guy who was in a wheelchair and dispatching for another private security company where I worked and he claimed that is what happened to him when he worked for K Mart in loss control. This was back in the early 1980s.The store was in such a rough neighborhood that they eventually had to close it anyway.

Somebody even shoplifted the "Blue Light" that the employees would put on the aisle where the "Blue Light Special" was located! THAT'S what some people thought about K-Mart.

Now K-Mart has been merged with Sears and we have TWO losers! I talked with some of the loss prevention people and employees are STILL being treated like dirt --at least in the stores in Texas before I had to leave...

If you EVER get treated like THAT again --ESPECIALLY if you are member of an ethnic group:

SUE,SUE,SUE,SUE!

Or encourage "certain types" of people to "shop" in K Marts....

Obviously a mix up

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 11, 2006

This was obviously a mix-up on the store's part. However, I cannot help but wonder, why would you stop to try on a pair of shoes identical to the pair you just purchased and were wearing at the time? That not only makes no sense, but was the root of the mix-up that caused all the drama that day.
