Yes, I am one of "those" people now.
Last year in October I signed up for Warrior X-Fit at Karate America. At the time, I was excited to be joining and looking forward to my black belt. I had a option of signing up for a 3 years at 125$ a month or 1 Year at 150$ a month. At the time, we had the money and the time. So I opted for the 3 years.
I regretted it immediately. I came online and saw Karate America all over Rip Off report.com and different websites saying how hard they are to work with you.
I started going to taekwondo and warrior x-fit. Then the owner of the school I went to started harassing me about the Leadership Program. They make it sound so special and that you're gifted to be joining yet they try to get everyone to join because you have to pay more! I was already paying a ridiculous amount. (125$?!?! Seriously, I can go to the gym for 10$ and get way more!) and I kept telling them NO! I didn't want it! I even emailed them to tell them I didn't want it, couldn't afford it and it was making me not even come to classes anymore.
Luckily we moved towards another school and that school was a little better yet I did not want to continue to go to class. I hated it! We moved, and couldn't afford it, bills came up, and I even got a 2nd job (just to pay for it) so I didn't even have time to go.
I had asked them to consider switching my contract from 3 years to 1 year! Like I should have done in the first place but you never know what life will throw at you. I said I would pay the 150$ instead of the 125$ and they declined without a reason. They're not losing out on anything and I'm still honoring a contract I've begged and pleaded with them because I shouldn't have to pay this outragous fee because I don't want to go anymore. They wont work with me and I regret even signing up...I regret not researching and if I can help one person not sign up, then I'll do it.

Sounds like you signed an agreement to bring you or your child to classes and agreed to pay for those classes and Karate America agreed to teach those classes and you didn't hold up your agreement. And now you're mad because they are holding up theirs.

Contract

After reading this, I had to go check my contract to see if I remembered what it said correctly... It's spelled out in large bold print the reasons you can cancel (for a $150 fee). You can cancel if you move > 25 miles away from a affiliated school, or become disabled, not if you just change your mind. Most gym memberships are the same way. If you don't read contracts, you should not sign them.

Ive already spoken with my teacher and things are fine now. I wrote this in a fit of rage, so Id appreciate it if everyone left me a lone now! I shouldnt have signed up for a contract okay! Contracts are a work of the devil. Live and Learn..NO ONE offers contracts any more and I SHOULDNT have signed up for it, but Im going to GO AND GET MY MONEYS WORTH!
But dont think Im the only one this has happend too! So everyone leave me a lone. Im going, Im training, and Im sorry I even said anything! Just warning people DONT SIGN A THREE YEAR contract bc they will pressure you for more money unless you go to a GOOD SCHOOL!

Update From The Company
AUTHOR: Karate America Employee - (USA)

In reference to Karate Americas not changing a contract:
Unfortunately, we were unable to give this student exactly what was requested, but we did offer to hold training time until the student could return to class, switch the membership to another family member, let the student change to any Karate America location to find the schedule and instructor that best suits, and/or freeze a payment to help financially. We are sorry the student is dissatisfied with any of these offers to assist. We are limited in what we are able to do. The economy is difficult for businesses
as well as individuals. We offer as much assistance as the company is able.
Also, since my last correspondence with this student, I have spoken to the membership board to see if there is anything else we can offer. They have agreed to drop the membership to a special we are running. This is usually reserved for new students who heard about us through our promotions in the area movie theaters. It does limit access to classes to only twice per week. The program runs $100 per month, in comparison to the $125 the student is paying now, and the membership board has agreed to rewrite the membership for only 12 additional payments. Though we are not able to back date the membership for 12 payments from when it was initially signed, we hope this is helpful. If the student would like to take advantage of this offer, please let the headquarters know, and I will ask the instructor to resign the membership at the next class.
Sincerely,
Karate America Employee

So you signed a contract, and now you're upset because you can't get out of it? (Like financing a car, then parking it because you don't want to pay for it anymore?) How is this a scam? Go back and train, and enjoy the benefits of the program you bought.
My family has loved training at Karate America for years. I know it's a cliche, but it's life changing. We paid cash instead of financing, like many do, but it's still a purchase, and worth every penny I might add.

Another case of buyer's remorse

"125$?!?! Seriously, I can go to the gym for 10$ and get way more"
So don't sign up for Karate. What dump of a gym charges $10 a month?
"I regret even signing up"
It's a rip off if the other party fails to honor the agreement. You made no such complaint. Buyer's remorse is NOT a rip off.
