We rented a property from Kevin Cheale who ended up being a very unprofessional property manager.
We found black mold in one of the bathroom. Upon the renovation of the bathroom, the trades people left dangerous materials in the house and in the carport which created an uncomfortable and unsafe living condition, not only for us but most importantly our children. After a month of dealing with the mess, I made a formal complaint to Kevin about this, he did nothing to rectify the situation.
I would leave a key outside the house every time a trades person would request, except for 2 weekends I was out of town. I did not feel comfortable about leaving a key unattended while I was away for that period. I was treated poorly when I would not leave the key on those weekends and was called "a difficult person to deal with". I caught one of his trades people in an area of the house that he had no reason to be in, this made me feel very uneasy. I did not bring this up to Kevin for I did not want to be called names and accused of being difficult. He made it very uncomfortable for me to to come to him about anything.
For 2 months, wood with exposed nails, piles of fiber glass filled insulation and high unstable stacks of wood and cardboard were left in the carport.
With the amount of rent we were paying, $1600 plus utilities and the uncomfortable and unsafe living conditions, we decided we could no longer live there. I gave notice on Oct 1 that we would be out by the 15th and we were refusing to pay the rent for October because of the living condition of the last 2 month. I told Kevin I would like him to keep the $800 deposit which was more than enough to cover what need be. This was unexceptionable to Kevin and he proceeded to threaten and call me names. He told me he was calling the cops and would have everything I owned confiscate he also said he was calling the ministry, which I'm not sure why he would threaten that, I was not on social services. He acted in a VERY unprofessional manner, calling me a nightmare tenant, I was a dead beat. When I asked him to stop threatening me he told me " he was just doing his job". In reality he's mentally unstable and should really check himself and represent is company and industry a little bit better.
Because of the treats and unprofessional act from Kevin, I realized what type of person I was dealing with so I packed up and left late evening on Oct 1, leaving the premisses as clean and damage free, as I possibly could, with in the time frame I had and under these threatening conditions.
Up to that point we left, the bathroom was still not complete and nor was the discarded reno material cleaned up, inside or out.
I have saved all the threatening text messages and have numerous pictures of the state of the property we were living in. I will be forwarding them to who ever is in charge at Coldwell Banker. I will also be forwarding to Coldwell Banker, the info on Ripoff Report about the poor couple in the United States he stole from.
Kevin Cheale should be ashamed of himself for stealing other peoples money, and he should be ashamed of how unprofessional his behavior while representing property managers.
I hope this exposed him and how he behave in his industry and prevents him from doing this to others.

Kevin needs to has his license pulled as well as spend time in Jail. He tells people he works with to do what it takes to get the most profit out of a rental. The guys is just full of it. I watched him threaten a renter that was next door to me. My god the things he said that he would do if the renters did not pay him $50 cash on the side for getting them a rental. I have never seen this but the guy did so. The renters were scared so they paid him. I saw it. I read the other reports aout an open case at the BC Govt re: a renter. This is typical BC as they side with the owner or mangement company every time. They have NO reach into your wallet. Just move out on the SOB and find a decent company. Mr.Cheale, In your rebuttal it stated that it is worth mentioning that Jodi said you did nothing about the mold etc etc when reading jodis statement he or she infact never said you did "nothing" about the situation itself with the mold but did nothing about the sitaution with the contractors...leaving a mess and the enviroment unsafe, do you have anything to retify your statement? as not once did this origonal poster say you were not dealing with the mold but infact was stating he or she felt the contractors and the mess and materials and demenor as well as your overal mannerisms made he or she feel unsafe.

Jodi was a tenant who rented from us in East Kelowna She wasn't a tenant of ours very long as we were hired by our client to evict Jodi who was placed by another Property Management Company. Jody was months behind on rent, and was unable to look after the property properly.
There is not a lot of truth to Jodi's post and really it isn't worth responding to however it is worth mentioning that Jodi claimed we did nothing to deal with all the mold in the basement bathroom and yet my "trades guys" left dangerous materials in the carport. If I didn't do anything, what were my trades guys doing at the Property. The picture shown by Jodi shows that our client, the sweetest lady who lives out East, instructed us to spare no expense to get the bathroom in order. The box that you see in the picture is the shipping box of a brand new shower which was installed 2 days after Jodi mentioned the mold. The box and debris was removed the same day. Jodi tried to use the mold issue as an excuse not to pay rent for 3 months. I attempted to get her a free months lease however the owner just wanted her out.
We now have two fantastic tenants in the unit and have yet to have one issue as our client has given my partner and I the ability to take care of any and all issues without even running it by her first! Thats the best kind of landlord to have. Whenever you are renting from a Property Manager, ask him or her about the owner of the property and how good they are in responding to repairs. Very important to know before signing a lease.
I wish Jodi the best and I hope she sees this post and responds to me. If anyone knows he and is aware of this post, please contact our office as there is an outstanding dispute resolution against her in British Columbia.
