This company contacted us in May of 06. They told us that our son was being reconized for being a outstanding student. Then asked for money. We thought that it would be something for him to keep working hard on his goals. The company was a ripoff. Why can't we stop people and companies like this from degrading the American way. Stop them !!

Who's Who books more valuable than stated

AUTHOR: Cjt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 06, 2009

It appears that most of the posts have been made by persons who have not placed their biographies in the Who's Who books. I was nominated in high school and still have the book my parents proudly purchased. Perhaps it didn't make me a member of the Fortune 500 sect but it is a treasured memento worth the money paid. My son was nominated all four years of high school. My daughter has now been nominated. My children are 4.0+ students who are well rounded in their extra curricular activities, athletics and volunteer groups. Yes, the company does send out mass letters but not every "biography" then submitted in response makes it into the book. The gentleman who stated he received a letter the same year he flunked 4 courses...perhaps he was nominated by a friend as a joke? Perhaps the company bought a list of student names...but I can assure you that had he submitted an honest biography his name would never have made it into the book.

As for any value the books hold other than sentimental value....have any of you dissenters actually filled out a college application? Requested literature from colleges you or your children may be interested in? Applied for college scholarships? I can assure you that every form completed by my son for colleges and scholarships asked not only about his GPA and extra curricular activities but also asked about a long list of numerous academic honors.....of which the Who's Who books was one. I assure you that colleges and universities today are paying attention to the students included in these books.

No, the system is not perfect. But for a student who works hard to excel the book is a great keepsake. For the student who is striving for goals, inclusion in the book is a great addition to scholarship and college applications.

And no, I do not work for the company. No, I am not a salesperson. I am a hardworking single parent who believed my money was well spent on the books. Kudos to the hard working students and their parents who are included!

How can we question you?! Are you serious?

AUTHOR: Ang - (U.S.A.)

Oh you have scholarships? Please referece them. Please, because I haven't seen any such thing. Who's Who books are basically a way to sell self esteem. Don't listen to the last poster, she's a shill. Nice try paid crap salesman.
You will get nothing out of this crap. It is a true ripoff.
If you doubt it, try contacting the who's who of middle school people of 10 years ago. Ask them what they got from it. I doubt they got anything thing and their parents got ripped off.

Why would anyone care???

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 30, 2006

What I don't understand is why anyone would care about recognition as a "who's who in middle school" ... it simply does not make sense, so why pay for it? It's not like I see some 12 year old kid on the street and say, golly gee, that kid made the who's who list last year, let me get his autograph!!

The moral of this story is to spend your money wisely ... inquire about the validity of such "offers" before you blow a wad of dough.

Yes everyone should know this is a total scam...

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 30, 2006

I recieved a letter from the whos who or some crap like that when I was in high school.

I got the notice that I was being recognized as an excellent student the SAME semester that I completely FAILED 4 of my 6 classes (which is a whole different matter) but goes to show you that they send this letter to EVERYBODY. Obviously I didn't reply, knowing full well it was a scam..and the fact that my father was lying on the ground in hysterics laughing about my "Top Student" status.

It's just as bad as the crap letters you get telling you "John we know that you are a serious ___fill in the blank___ and thats why we choose you to join our "Secret club"
Some crap like that, we have all seen it.

Next time just make up a certificate and mail it to your son. (BTW I am sorry you got scammed)

Let's hope your son learned something from this and he's more wary in the future about these too good to be true offers.
