Three months ago I wa looking to add a cat to my family. There were no rescues in San Diego that would allow me to adopt a cat that I planned to let live indoor/outdoor. I found one in Long Beach that would allow me too, and they would also transposrt her down. Once I picked the one I want by pictures and some basic information, the woman running it had me send her the $75 adoption fee via paypal. It wa a personal email address but the recipient still said "Krazy Animal Lovers" so I thought it was ok. Two days later I got a phone call from a different woman, saying that the owner had told her that she had not received my $50 payment yet. I told her I had already payed more than that and sent her pictures of the paypal recipt, she backed off. My cat wa supposed to be spayed, microchipped, vaccinatd and vet checked, she was also apparently 1 year old (something vets tell by looking at their teeth).

Two weeks ago, I started noticing that Mimzy's sides were big and hard, and I suspected that she was pregnant because I realized I did not trust the rescue (but by that time we had already bonded with the cat). Two nights ago, she was exhibitinh "nesting" behavior; looking for a place to have her babies. She chose a dog bed which she had never gone into before. She was licking everything and having contractions. She wanted me to pet her and she seemed fine, it was late so I went to bed. When I woke up there were no kittens but there was mucus and blood on her bed. She was oozing some fluids too.

I took her to the vet, who verified that she had never been spayed or microchipped, and gave me a letter detailing that. She said that Mimzy is only 7 to 10 months old. She also said that she now has an infected uterus which needs to come out. The cost is going to be $350 because of the increased risks of spaying a cat with such an infection. If she had been spayed as I had been led to believe, this would not be happening.

I have tried contacting the group but I have only met with ridiculousness. They say that "It didn't come from us because if it did it would have been fixed and everything." Well I have the paypal recipt to their organization that says otherwise. The person proceeded to call me an "irresponsible pet owner" (how is that?) and told me to give the cat back so they could take it to the vet. I told them no way because I'm sure they would just sell her again. I told the rescue that they are liable for the vet bill, because if she had been spayed like they told me she was, she wouldn't have a uterus to get infected. I am upset because now I have a sick cat with medical bills I can't afford, and I'm positive this group will not pay for the vet bil or even refund my $75 adoption fee.

Paperwork

AUTHOR: serious rescuer - ()

POSTED: Thursday, May 29, 2014

I know Krazy Cat Lovers Rescue to be one of the most reputable animal rescues in Southern California.  Where did you get the cat and do you have any paperwork stating you got your cat from them?  Their adoptions come with loads of paperwork, including sterility certificates required by the City of Los Angeles, certificates of vaccinations and a microchip.  I find it very hard to believe that the group that I know would make that kind of mistake.  Even a stranger could call them with a cat problem and they would help.  Please make sure you have the right people.  Now, $350 for what is essentially just a messier cat spay is way too much money by at least half.  I am sorry for you went through and I hope you and your cat are well and happy for many, many years.

UPDATE

AUTHOR: hannah - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Here's an update on Mimzy; she no longer has an infected uterus, I treated her homeopathicaly for her infection and she is much better. I see my comments before and I am retracting the part where I say I want to be compensated for my time, money, effort, and sanity. I don't want a thing from the crooks, I want them shut down. It is a small victory for me that when your google the "rescue" you see the ripoff report on the first page!

The sad thing is these people probably have several "rescues" that they operate fom, easily shifting animas between them, breeding them, and making nothing but profit. Its disgusting the lack of concern they have for the welfare of the animals and for fellow humans. They're commitmant to the lies they have spun goes even further: I have posted on craigslist against them because I see them advertising in my town, and they immediatly flagged me. I will continue to perserve, the truth will be laid to light.

Misrepresented Animal

AUTHOR: Sunshine - ()

POSTED: Saturday, April 05, 2014

First of all, I am disappointed at the "said" rescue which had taken in this animal. Opinionated as I am, personally if the spay/neuter had been done the situation would not have taken place let alone you would not be bothered with it. However, the rescue did not do their part as a "rescue." Stop over population of animals, don't blame the the consumer for adopting an animal and even "overpaying" an adoption cost/fee and state you did spay/neuter the animal. Bottom line is you did not so own up to your mistakes, do not pass the blame onto someone else especially when they had no knowledge of the animal NOT being spayed/neutered PRIOR to adoption. The infection occured because the animal was not spayed/neutered by the "rescue". The "rescue" should not be rescuing any animals if they do not spay/neuter them. Over population of animals is a problem, so why did the "rescue" not spay/neuter the animal? Probly they forgot or were to lazy to have the vet do it. Bottom line be responsible for your actions as a rescue, do not call someone an "irresponsible pet owner" who seems to be more knowledgable of their pet than you did. Fix your mistake and pay the vet she had taken the animal to see, instead of trying to find a way around it.

(My personal opinion!)

Bold faced lies

AUTHOR: hannah b - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, February 12, 2014

I'm blown away by your lies. There was never any offer to pay my gas money to come up to long beach so she could see your vet. If there had been, I probably would have accepted, but there wasn't and that is a bold faced lie. You say she came from the shelter; well, what shelter? where is the paperwork? I was never given any paperwork or even an adoption contract. If she did come from the shelter as you said, there would be paperwork. I have requested it twice and I was told it would take "a few days to get it together. That was weeks ago. I highly doubt that a shelter "forgot" to spay and microchip her but had paperwork saying she was. Maybe I'm wrong, and the day I see official paperwork on it I will apologize and retract my report. Another thing I find troubling is that when I had contacted you on your facebook page, simply stating the facts that she had been to the vet who verified that nothing I was led to believe was true, and you deleted my comments and blocked me from posting on your page! It shows an extreme commitment to hiding the truth. Also, at first you denied the cat had even come from you! These claims of "extortion" are laughable, I have a SIGNED LETTER from a vet saying what veterinary care she needs, and I have told you repeatedly that you can pay DIRECTLY TO THE VET. I don't want to see a penny of your stinking money! That's not extortion, thats the law. This animal was misrepresented to me, maybe you should have checked your facts a little bit better, if that was actually the case. The only money I want to see from you is my $75 adoption fee which apparently went to nothing, and I think is due to me for all of this suffering heartache and precious time dealing with you people, which I think is more than fair. You say I "refused" to give the cat back as if it was a bad thing; we have bonded with this cat and she with us, I'm not going to throw her away because she is sick. As for your claims that "you will have to get the cat back". Ha! That's the most ridiculous thing you've said yet! She is my animal I have a recipt paid to your organization for her and since you never had me sign an adoption contract with a return clause, you have no authority over her. Please do not try and come to my home and remove her by force or coercion because that is illegal and its not going to happen.

Unfounded response

AUTHOR: hannah b - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, February 12, 2014

In response to your rebuttal; I was Never offered gas money to take my cat to your veterinarian up there. If I had been, I probably would have agreed, but I don't know where you are getting that from. I am tired of these blatant lies on the rescue's part. Where was the paperwork saying she was spayed which I asked for repeatedly? Where was the adoption contract? I have a paypal recipt (which I will gladly show to you) stating that I payed $75 to Krazy Animal Lovers, thus proving that the cat is mine. There was no adoption contract with a return clause, you cannot legally take my cat and you will not be, she is my property. My only concern is for her welfare, which is why I will not be returning her to you. I am concerned because when I posted my concerns on your facebook, simply stating the facts, you deleted them and banned me from posting on there because you are afraid of the truth. I find it hard to believe that the shelter would "forget" to spay and microchip her, but if you can show me documents proving this is true I will drop my case and offer a full apology. Once again, it was never offered to me to be reimbursed for gas to take her up to their vet, that's a lie. Also, their claims of "extortion" are completely laughable! I have a signed letter from a vet on a letterhead that states that she needs this surgery, and I have told them they can pay directly to the vet! I don't want to see a penny of money from these people, except for the refund of my $75 adoption fee, which I will be expecting because of the stress and heartache this is doing to me, I think it is only fair. And how exactly am I making it difficult to verify my story? I have all the documents and will gladly send them to you, you can even speak with my vet. I feel I am being completely transparent. Please do not attempt to come to my house and attempt to get the cat by coercion or force, because that is illegal and would be stealing.

Cat in Question

AUTHOR: Krazy Kat Lovers - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, February 12, 2014

We as a rescue organization take great pride in ensuring that all of our cats are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flead, and de-wormed prior to adoption. For instance, last year alone we spayed and neutered over 600 cats at the SNPLA spay and neuter clinic in Los Angeles. We also always take our rescues back if a problem arises and we consistently provide help to those who have adopted from us if medical issues arise that they cannot afford. We work tirelessly for animals that have been abused, neglected, and forgotten.

Thus, we are shocked and saddened by this baseless “report.” The cat in question came from the shelter as an adult. All shelters are required to spay/neuter and microchip their cats prior to adoption/rescue. We were informed that these procedures had been carried out and believed it to be true. If there was some error with shelter paperwork or miscommunication that ended in this cat NOT being spayed prior to adoption, it is not something that was purposeful on our part.

We are concerned and saddened by Hannah’s aggressive attitude and her unwillingness to compromise in any way to ensure that her cat gets the care it needs. We have made multiple offers to her to resolve this situation. For instance, we initially offered to take the cat back and reimburse Hannah for the adoption fee she paid. She refused. We then requested that Hannah let us transport the cat to our veterinarian so that we may exam her ourselves and pay for any medical treatment needed. She refused, stating she was worried we would not bring the cat back.

We then asked Hannah to transport the cat to our veterinarian herself so she wouldn’t have to worry that we would keep her. We understand that she is in San Diego and we are located in Long Beach but she flat out refused to bring the cat up for examination even when we also agreed to reimburse for gas. As far as we can tell this is not a legitimate claim. We can see no reason why she would make it so difficult for us to verify her story and resolve this issue if it is true. Due to her blatant disregard for either this cat’s welfare, or her more likely attempt in extortion, we must now consider reclaiming this cat for her own safety.
