I want to warn others to stay away from applying for work with this company: Latham And Associates...Colorado or Iowa.  I was sent information about some demonstration work from this company...by a Mr. Souza. I received a welcome letter to sign to start the paper work. This company has "tried" to make me jump several hoops for them and no work has yet to materialize.

1) H.R. does not know what they are doing at all..state one thing one day...something else another day
2) They request too much personal information: Beware
Car Insurance Declaration, bank information, social security, and provide employee with nothing
after several weeks.
3) Same man starts sending work assignments before H.R.says you are complete and on board and not the work originally applied.
4) They send work that was not originally offered...much different work..appears they are offering blind ads up front as a ploy to get you to do work they cannot find workers out there to do.
5) H.R. cannot find any of your paper work after you submit it all--and will call numerous times telling you that you are incompetent and where is the paper work?...as you are talking...they start to find one page at a time but...the paperwork is NEVER filled out correctly...according to them.
6) They require a Notary to sign an I-9 Form?? No other company in history requires this?! They even tell you that there is an order of where the Driver's license is to go and a specific place for the Social Security Card from left to right?? Then after they tell you which is which location...they then change it and want you to drive again to find another new notary.
7) They tell us we are on board with them...then they call again...a few days later and state you still can't seem to fill out the paper work right? 2 of these notaries have had it with them and will no longer deal with their I-9s.

The frustrations are huge and and in the end after many weeks have gone by...you are still not working and making No money. Beware! Do Not Enter In! I finally had to tell them to forget my paper work and cancel my relationship with them...if it is THIS BAD while doing just the paper work...what other issues will come soon after one would? obtain an assignment. I am just glad I never had an assignment now.

I have since made many phone calls...to Homeland Security and to the Immigration office. As one might  believe...I have been given, yet, a 3rd phone number to discuss the validity of a notary to verify who a person is.

A notary is only licensed to verify signatures..those signatures that APPEAR ON SAID DOCUMENTS signed in front of them.  According to all the many notaries we have talked to...they have refused to do anything else but verify the signature.

If a Notary is asked to verify documents and who the person is....most all of them are now questioning this procedure, calling their legal departments, and having the bank manager step in to verify if their notary should even make an attempt to assist a customer.in this way. Notaries are refusing to do so....since this is Not their job. Many notaries are sending individuals away stating we cannot do what this company is asking.

I totally agree with the notaries. They are not to do anything else above and beyond what they are licensed to do. In the certification section it states employer or authorized representative. Notaries are not acting in the form of an authorized representative. They do not believe that their license dictates this job of authorization. I do agree with them.

In the past any person knowing this person is an authorized representative...not a stranger. Someone who knows you....looks at the 2 documents and then sign their name and date to verify they looked at the documents and indeed signing is the person on the form. If they are not acting in a positive...and they sign their name on an I-9 Form...then this is the person that the immigration office or the employer should contact for verification...not a notary.

Also this company along with a few other marketing companies are making up a home made form for the notary to place their stamp where these companies state goes along with the 1-9 form...no this is not legal as there is No Signature on this hand made for of the individual but just some simple information that has nothing to do with verifying signatures once again. The immigration office told me they believe that this form is not an authorized or official form of the Immigration office and that this appears to be something their legal department should address. Besides the 2 pieces of paper could become separated at any point and then what would you have as a verified signature...you would have Nothing.

Therefore, Notaries are stamping anywhere they can find right on the I-9 Form since this is the document with the signed signature of the individual. Most notaries don't and won't place their stamp on a piece of paper that does not have an individual's signature.

There is no order in Section B and C...it is either your driver's license and a social security card and their is No order there per say for each one...just 2 forms is all it asks...one on each location of the I-9 Form in that section.  After speaking with State employment services they have said yes...that is fine...there is No Order.  In fact, an I-9 meant for Latham & Associates that they accepted and then 5 days later refused again was accepted as completely fine and okay at another company a week later.

I won't stop here...I am going as far as I need to go to protect the W-2 Employees and the Notaries in this country--from being asked or forced to do something they are not to be doing or not licensed to do so or...over and over when it is not possible to do what they are asking.

If I have to go to the higher up courts in regard to this matter...I will...since this is hurting and harming a great deal of individuals and wasting a lot of time and transportation monies to tell possible employees that their I-9 Forms are not right when they are exactly right and fine and no unnecessary trips back and forth to notaries who say...this is Not My Job.

Everyone knows there is an amount of paper work that yes does have to be filled out and is acceptable. This report has nothing to do with the amount of the paper work or how long it might take to fill out the paper work for any job.

This report is solely to do with the I-9 Immigration Form that this company complains so bitterly about that never seems to please them and their unofficial homemade form...even when the document is completed correctly. There is no one who would sign this form that was lieing and did not know the person nor did not see the 2 documents. That would not be advisable.

CLAs HR Department does every it can to make the onboarding process as smooth and painless as possible for our new employees.  With that being said, our new employees are required to complete some routine new hire paperwork. Since most of our workforce works remotely, this paperwork is often complete via the internet at home as opposed to coming into the office to complete the paperwork.  The HR Department provides examples to help people complete the new hire paperwork and our HR Coordinators are always available to answer questions.
It is true that CLA requires some personal information to complete this new hire paperwork.  CLA asks all new employees for their social security number so that we can process payroll checks and deduct taxes from checks.  Employees are not required to provide their bank account information, this is completely optional.   Bank information is provided by employees who wish to enroll in direct deposit. 

CLA requires all employees to have auto insurance because they drive as part of their job.  The information that
we need to provide proof of insurance does not contain any personal information other than name and address, which CLA already has on file.
CLA does not hide work assignments or try to deceive our new employees regarding the type of work they will be
completing.  The HR Department provides job descriptions on the internet for new employees to read.  If an employee is concerned that their work assignment is not as originally described, the employee can always approach his/her supervisor or the HR Department.

The United States Department of Homeland Security requires that all employers obtain a completed Form I9 for their new employees.  The government creates guidelines on how to complete this paperwork. CLA is required to have all employees complete a new Form I9 in accordance with the government guidelines. As part of this process, a notary or current CLA employee will need to complete the Form I9 and verify the new employees identification.  The HR Department admits this process can be work, but it is required step by the government that we cannot avoid.

The HR Department values all of our employees and we are working improve the flaws within our onboarding process.  We appreciate our employees feedback and will continue to do everything we can to make the onboarding process as smooth and painless as possible.
