On 2/19/2013, I started receiving calls from a number I did not recognize so I did not pick up. The number was 760-624-8037. I was actually leaving my office for a meeting when the individual called my office number. He spoke to my colleague who reported it was of an 'serious matter' that he speak with me. He called again when I was driving, identifying himself as 'Eric Johnson'. He proceeded to tell me that he was calling from the Law firm of Johnny Best and that I had a criminal suit against me/connected to my social security number and that I had to pay $300 to resolve it. This person had a very thick Indian accent and got very annoyed and rude when I told him I didnt know what I was talking about and IF I actually had a criminal suit against me, I would have received some sort of documentation in the mail from the attorney or courthouse. I think this annoyed him even more and the more he spoke, the more I could not understand him. I told him he needed to speak slowly and clearly so that I could process what he was telling me and he hung up abruptly. I received a long voicemail from him whilst in my meeting, informing me that if I did not respond the 'lawsuit' would proceed to the courts and I would end up losing my job and my family! When I called back, highly annoyed that I could not get him but spoke with another heavy accented person who proceeded to read a list of items loudly to me and I told them to stop, because i could not understand what they were saying. This person hung up. I called back 3 or 4 times and could not reach anyone at the number. During the evening I called the number again and got voicemail. I left a message indicating that I was becoming aware that this was some sort of scam and told them they would be hearing from my attorney. In trying to make the connection, I am embarassed to say I applied fro a payday loan, and the company named above did not actually provide any approval documents of any kind, so obviously I did not go with them at all. My account with the provider who approved me are up to dayToday 2/20/13, they've called me 4 times and have not left a message. I connected with the Better Business Bureau to report it and find there was a similar report to one I read on this site. I am annoyed that people think they can take advantage of others in this way. Do what you can to get these people off the internet, off the phone period!
