In December of 2004, I began dating Lawrence Rose, the father of one of my son's friends (I am divorced). He was very pleasant, charming and seemed like the perfect parent and man. He told me his wife left in June because she had a boyfriend (this was a lie, the first of many). He told his children the same thing and they did not feel very good about their mother. He told me he arranged a layoff at his job to take care of his children (another lie; he was fired). At the time, he treated me wonderfully and I was convinced this was the type of man I wanted to grow old with. I was falling in love.

Within a month, he called and said that his house was going into foreclosure because his wife hadn't paid the mortgage (another lie). He needed $1,000 for his lawyer. I lent it to him. A few weeks later, another $1,000 was needed and I lent that to him also. He managed to get a job, but he never seemed to have enough left over to take care of his kids. I gave him a credit card to use for emergencies. He would call and say the electric was going to be shut off and his kids were hungry. I lent him money on a regular basis for these things.

Within two months, he ran the credit card up to over $8,000 and I had to take it back. He promised to pay me back. At first, it was fine. He was giving me at least $100 per week. During the summer time, he became less attentive and was not paying me back weekly. There were all kinds of excuses. He had to pay for things for the kids, the bills were high, etc. We broke up for a little while, but got back together in two weeks. I was still believing his stories.

By the time winter rolled around, he was routinely blowing me off or standing me up for dates, the money was not coming as it should and I had had enough. I wanted to break up with him for good, but I was worried about the money. His son had told me that he was using me for the money. Lawrence Rose still owed me $13,000. It turns out that he broke up with me and paid me a little bit more over the next two months - $1,000. Then he stopped paying, moved and I lost touch with him.

Lawrence Rose still owes me $12,000. I am a single parent with a child in college. He knows this and still is not paying me. I have no recourse as I never had him sign any papers. I have since found out that he is a con artist and owes many people large sums of money.

I fell in love with a con artist and am paying the price. Please help me retrieve this money.
