I cannot believe the horrible experience I had dealing with this company.  They have no shame, and they clearly have no problem breaking laws to try to scam more money out of their customers.  As if it isn't stressful enough picking up and moving across the county, you then get lied to and have to deal with horrible companies like this one.

This was our first time hiring a moving company for a move from Michigan to Colorado.  We were given an estimate through a Broker (which I know now is NEVER a good idea.. lesson learned).  The estimate was for 1,221,00 for 2,394lbs.  Reasonable, and I was fine with it.  I assumed we would need to pay extra at delivery, since our Condo would be on the 3rd floor of our new building.  Not a problem.

The movers from LD Moving and Storage never called us when they were supposed to, and I had to continue to call the Broker to see why we were not being contacted.  We had a 2-day window for pick up, and at 5pm on the first day of the 2-day window, I finally received a call from Eric, the Mover from LD.  He said they would be there the next morning between 8am and 10am.  He was supposed to call an hour before arrival, but did not.  We were given 20 minutes notice before their arrival to our apartment.

Upon entering the home, Eric surveyed our belongings and began reviewing our list of inventory.  We were extremely careful to keep our items exactly  matching the inventory list, which we had updated 6 days prior to pick-up.  The movers from LD Moving and Storage did not have our updated list, and called the Broker to get it sent over.  He then began going on and on about how our 3-piece sectional was "larger than they expected", and how my bookshelf was "medium" not "small".  He went ahead and added 700lbs to our original estimate, and we were forced to sign, or lose our $300 security deposit and be without movers- not an option at that point.  So we were stuck.

We were ensured that we would be refunded if the weight was under 3,000lbs.  Not much else we could do at this point, except wait to see the weight tickets.  A few days later, we received a call from a woman named Nelly at the LD Moving and Storage Offices.  She informed me of our delivery window and the amount owed.  I then waited to hear from the driver, since i was informed he would have the weight tickets.

When contacted by the driver, he told us that he was not in posession of the weight tickets, that the pick up driver still had them.  We called the office back and she again said that the driver would have them at delivery.  Only after a third call did she agree to scan and email them to me.  When i received the tickets, they weight showed as 3,040lbs, which seemed absolutely ridiculous to me.  Plus, the date on the tare weight ticket was TWO DAYS prior to my pick up, and the final weight ticket was TWO DAYS AFTER.

The numbers and dates on the tickets did not match up for me, so I proceeded to call the CAT Scales customer service number to verify these weights.  The nice lady there informed me that that the truck had actually been through many more times between the two dates that I was given.  In fact, after they left my house at 1:00pm, they weighed in at 3:30pm with a full load.  MY LOAD.  So where was that ticket?

We sent emails questioning things, and were told that this was the weight, and it is not their fault the Broker gave us a wrong estimate.  When I asked to re-weigh, she told me that I would have to pay for it.  I know for a fact, by law they cannot charge me for a re-weigh.  After informing Nelly that I contacted CAT Scales, I never again received any sort of response from her.  I requested a re-weigh when the delivery truck arrived, which the driver did not have a problem with.  He was contracted to do our delivery from a different company, so it was not any concern of his what the load weighed.  After everything was unloaded, our total weight came to 1,840lbs.  THAT'S A DIFFERENCE OF 1200LBS.

This company gave us fake/false weight tickets to try to scam us out of money.  This is against the law, and I do not know how they continue to get away with this ridiculous crap!  If i hadn't spend an entire week of my own time trying to sort through their lies, call companies, verify documents, etc, I would've had to pay them an extra 500 dollars!  Something needs to be done about this.  They should be given a hefty fine, after all what is the point of a weight ticket, when they are just giving me the tickets that match their made up weights?  I am extremely angry and frustrated with this entire situation.

NEVER USE LD MOVING AND STORAGE FOR ANY SERVICES.  IT IS A SCAM.

Ziggy, the owner of LD Moving and storage gave me a follow up call.  He listened to the story about what happened, and apologized for the problems.  I really appreciate the effort to follow up and follow through.  Sometimes you get a bad employee who makes the company look bad.  And that is probably what happened here.  Ziggy asked what could be done to make this right, and he agreed to compensa us for our troubles.  Problem solved.  :)
