I started going to Le Cordon Bleu because I was led to believe it was a good school at the top of it's class. WOW - were they LIARS. First of all they have a recruitment office which leads you to believe only the best will be selected for their school, and this is a total lie. Everyone who has access to financial aid money gets in. The school is ridiculously expensive so if you have full ride of pell and stafford loans like I do... those don't even cover all the tuition. So I ended up paying 4000+ for the first semester with my loans and STILL had to pay them 100$ out of pocket for something that they called a grant. (Don't ask me.. none of it makes sense). Anyway - I finished the 1st semester with flying colors. Then.. I got sick and had to be in the hospital for about a week, and after that we had a family emergency. Le Cordon Bleu told us that we could take a registered Leave Of Absence and just restart the same semester in the next round of classes. So thats what I did, except.. the day before I went back they told me the Associates degree program was no longer available and I would have to go for the diploma. I said.. "Fine." because it was 20,000$ cheaper. So the day before we went back they called us on the way to school and told us unless we had 8000$ to give them that we couldn't come back to school for the LESS EXPENSIVE program. We were like WTF ? They told us that because of our LOA our financial aid from the government came in, and then got sent back to them so we would have to pay for our classes up front from then on. None of this made any sense to me or my roomate who also attended there. After that we were like F-U and decided to transfer to our local Community College for their culinary program. Now LCB is telling us instead of 8000$ we owe them 4000$ and some change and they are holding our transcripts until we pay them, even though the government has already paid them. This organization is absolutely filled with CRIMINALS. They aren't even a school.. they're a corporation who does not care about it's students or education at all. We have no idea when we will be able to go back to school because of it all. If I had known that the 3 years I put into college would all go down the drain because I spent 6 weeks at LCB I would have told them to go F themselves to begin with. Please don't EVER EVER EVER go to this school unless you wanted to be completely screwed over and not even be able to get anything except for a minimum wage job IF you do get out there with transcripts or a diploma.

My Experience in Orlando

AUTHOR: LMcelwaney - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, July 28, 2011

I also went to Cordon Bleu Orlando, and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I, like you, enrolled because I was told it was prestigous and top ranking. I was proud to tell people that I was going to Le Cordon Bleu, and was going to one day open a restaurant.
But then! During my very first class, we were told that there were 3 different high-end restaurant chains that had black-listed anyone coming from this school because we were "lazy, disrespectful, and didnt know how to work in the industry". During my first few classes, the rules were very strict because they wanted to "maintain their good image". The thing is, they had no GOOD image to maintain.
In the next few months, the entire student services department was totally gone. Doesnt exist anymore. The financial aid office? Went in there and they told me "we no longer deal with financial aid on campus. Call the 1-800 number". Scheduling was done by ONE lady.
Then, in my next class, I walked in on the first day, to find a kitchen jam-packed with 67 people. So we had to deal with this for a few days until they created 2 other classes. Then in my next class, which was my baking and pastry class, same situation. And my friend had to do her baking and pastry class in a culinary kitchen because they had way too many students. Then another B and P class had the same experience. 30 people in the class, in a culinary kitchen.
One day I was walking into an office and overheard someone who was on their little tour, and I overheard the woman say that "when you enroll you will get 3 full uniforms". Why is that I wonder?? Because when I enrolled, we got 5! Hmmm.
And as for the entrance interview, theyve taken it to another level. They now have an entire office with cubicals so that the interview can be "confidential and private". but really they accept anyone who walks in and wants to give them money. I had a guy in my class that had 5 felonies on his record. And another with a felony that he said "could never be taken off his record and he wouldnt talk about". So they clearly arent concerned with who is going to their school.
I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. This school is a total joke, and I dont expect it to last much longer. I heard so many people saying "I should have gone to -insert cheaper school here-"
Oh, and also, I switched from the degree program to the diploma program when I found out that all of the academic classes such as math, are not transferable to other colleges. They are counted as electives because they dont meet the proper standards. So Im sure that is the real reason they got rid of the degree program. Not their excuse "we got rid of it because we are the only culinary school that offered it". Bull! If that was the case, that would give them an advantage.
