I just had an eye exam this week. The doctor tested my lenses and told me the glasses were not the prescription he had given me 2.5 years ago. I went right to Lenscrafters where the glasses had been made and told this t the shift supervisor, the highest ranking management person on duty. She brought the glasses in the back to their lab and confirmed they were not the same as the prescription. There was no doubt that the glasses were made by Lenscrafters. She checked the computer only to discover there was no record of any of my progressive lenses prescriptions in my file, and no notations had been made about this problem in the computer file. She also told me their files were purged every two years.

She offered me a 50% discount on my new pair of glasses. Since I am a member of AAA I had already received a 30% discount, so she was essentially offering me a 20% discount. I explained this to her, and she said I would have to talk to a manager, because that was all she was authorized to do.

Two days later the General Manager, Allison Zak, called me and said because the problem was so old, she was standing by the shift supervisor's offer. I told her what I had been through over the pas t 2 years with the lenses. I explained that I dismissed the possibility of there being an error in their workmanship, based on the technicians' reactions to my many visits. They just kept re-adjusting. I also explained that it was not my responsibility that her employees had not documented this in their computer system.

She made a second offer. Using my old frames, she would make a new pair of lenses correct to the 2.5 year old prescription!!! She knew my prescription had changed since that time. How stupid is that!!!! Now she convinced herself she had given me two choices. I told her I, nor anyone in my family, would ever do business with Lenscrafters again. Additionally, I told her to credit my VISA account 20% and I would pursue this further.

HISTORY: 2 years ago Lenscrafters filled my prescription for a pair of progressive lenses eye glasses. Progressive lenses do need adjustment from time to time. I began to feel that the number of times I was going in for adjustments was excessive, and expressed this to many of the technicians who waited on me. After about a year, one of them suggested I may need a sturdier frame, as I had selected a frame with only top rims. I purchased another pair of glasses, with a sturdier (and much more expensive) frame, and had them lenses made from the same prescription because it had only been on e year since my eye exam. All of this was 100% paid out of my pocket. I continued to have difficulty seeing with the glasses and continued to go in for adjustments. No technicians ever suggested there may be a problem with the prescription, they just kept adjusting'.

#9 UPDATE Employee

90 days and more

AUTHOR: Thatsright - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 11, 2009

You get 90 days to make a prescription change at Lenscrafters. If the Dr. messes up and does not get it right the first time Lenscrafters will remake BOTH lens at no charge to you within 90 days. Most managers are generous with this and will even extend this by up to a couple of weeks.

It does not make any difference if you used the Dr. next door or one in the next state. If you have not figured out you can't see out of your new glasses in three months you may have other issues.

While I am on a soap box don't automatically assume that if you can't see it must be the glasses problem. Just as a reminder not all Dr.s graduated at the top of their class. I was once handed an Rx that had 8 sets of numbers on it. I asked if the person I was talking to could see out of their glasses at all. They replied yes pretty good. I told them they would not be able to see out of glasses if we made them to this Rx. I could tell that just by eyeballing their glasses I did not even touch them. We had one of our Dr.s check the Rx and it turned out that out of those 8 sets of numbers 7 of them were wrong.

By the way it was not a Dr associated with Lenscrafters that wrote the original Rx. In fact the office that it came from was from out of state and had 12 doctors listed on the top of the prescription form. Guess they did not check each others work.

The 30 day guarantee is different; this is all about you. You tried on 50 frames brought in three girlfriends who all told you it is the perfect frame for you. Ten days later you change your hair color and you decide those frames are not really so hot after all. Guess what you still get to change the frame and/or the type of lens and Lenscrafters will refund you money if they were a less expensive choice. Even though those glasses were made with your Rx and then custom fitted to your head. And you had to have everything explained to you three times.

Going back to the subject of eye exams why is no one ever told in the Dr.s office when you are doing the "which is better #1 or #2 routine" not to squint? You are not going to squint when you put on your glasses are you?

Also it does take time to get used to the new Rx. If you have had the same glasses for years don't presume that as soon as you put on new glasses you are going to see better. Your brain takes some time to get used to interpreting what it is seeing. Different people different times could be an hour or it might be days.

Scratched Lens ok you have scratched your lens you've had your glasses four months and there are tooth marks in them where your dog ate them. Or you somehow managed to drop them on the grass outside your front door then you stepped on them. Now you think they ought to be replaced. Lenscrafters does this for 50% of the original retail price. Yet a lot of people think this is too much. Who else does this? Your kid backs your new car into a telephone pole 20 minutes after you drove it off the lot is the dealer going to repair it for free? Try asking for a 50% discount cause its a new car and see how loud the repair shop laughs.

Got a new pair of $129.00 jeans that you spilled bleach on by accident. Try returning them for a new pair cause they "faded". Do we not take responsibility for our own actions? Did Thomas Payne use all the common sense? (That last sentence will be lost on the majority.)

Most Lenscrafters employees percive that the consumer as not too bright. We hear from customers all the time, "I just need them to see". Or "I just wear them at night after I take out my contacts." That's why you need a Channel frame and the cheapest lens. Yes we try to educate you but after you have asked the same question three times we get the impression that you may not be listening.

If you want good customer service don't come in ten minuets before closing.
Also don't start whining on a Saturday or Sunday when there are four associates and 25 customers. Most stores are open 7 days a week most days for at least ten hours. Pick another day. On weekends most of us do not take a break and may not get much of a lunch. We are not standing around talking to each other about our boyfriend or girlfriend like I see in department stores and even professional offices.

If somone helps you for an hour then steps away to dispence another pair of glasses that someone has been waiting for for 15 minutes don't suddenly decide on a pair and get someone else to type up the order. We don't get much commision but we do desirve a little respect for trying to help more than one person at a time.

Frankly most of us would rather put you in the ugly frame and great lens cause WE WANT YOU TO BE ABLE TO SEE! Who knows you just might have to drive next to us on the interstate. And until you lose 100 pounds the most expensive frame in the store is not going to make you look better. So you might as well see better. Glasses are a medical appliance. Can you imagine getting a designer cast for your broken leg that does little to help your leg heal properly?

In most states,as in where I live, the doctor's RX is good for a max of 2 yrs. My POS system only keeps files for three yrs.,purging them automatically. I also work in an established, 15 yr old company who does 1-Hour service (not Lenscrafters).Considering that you never mention having produced a receipt, are you sure you even bought them there? I cannot tell you how many times people have swore that they bought their glasses from me, and then come to find out it was Sears,WalMart,Lenscrafters, etc and I was right all along. Some people just don't pay attention or remember where the bought their glasses.Trust me, it happens.

Did you expect that your prescription would NOT change after two years? If you bought another pair of glasses and they still didn't work, did you consult with your doctor? Maybe HE/SHE was in the wrong! Doctors are human, too.

Your eyes are VERY important! Why wait over 2 years?? Doen't make sense!

AUTHOR: Jake - ()

Why would anyone wait that long that was having problems seeing? Would you wait to see a doctor if you having were trouble hearing? Or smelling? Or tasting? Feeling?

It was just plain irresponsible of this woman to wait so long if she had a problem. I've bought glasses at that Lenscrafters for years as well as in other locations across the country. I have never had any problems ever! I'm sorry, but this woman sounds kind of lazy or ignorant or both because from her comments the store did try to help her out with a discount. Does she think stores give goods away for free? Would you try to return a compact disk that was over two years old? A bicycle? A car, even? Get REAL....

what do you expect!!!

AUTHOR: franklen - ()

POSTED: Sunday, October 20, 2002

i can't believe that it took you 2 and half years to go back to the store. if the prescription didn't seem right, you go back to your dr immediately. i think lc was very generous to offer what they did after so long. You can't expect them to give it to free after this long. Are you the type of person that just likes to complain??? try being more proactive next time. If i boughtanything three years ago and i'm just now taking care of it then its my fault. don't blame them for your procastination!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lanie, wrong.

Opticians and stores like Lenscrafters take your prescription and keep a record of it and should have that information on file. You buy something from most stores today like Auto Zone, Radio Shack, or any other electronic store, they have all your info, you don't need a receipt, especially an eye glass store, they take all your contact information down including keeping your prescription on file.

resposibility

AUTHOR: lanie - ()

POSTED: Friday, October 18, 2002

If you get a pair of glasses, and they are not working correctly for you, then YOU have the responsibilty to get the glasses to your Dr.'s office and hae them checked. If you're angry about the situation, then you can only be angry at yourself for not insisted that the glasses get inspected by the Optician at any optical retailer, and/or by your Dr. This is your resposibility. I imagine you didn't have a reciept for you purchase. Why should anyone else be resposible for recording your purchases? If you'd had proof of you purchase, things may have been different. I work in Retail, and to ask for monetary reward after 3 years is unrealistic and unreasonable. Hopefully you learned your lesson and have all your glasses checked immediately after you purchase them. If bad mouthing a company makes you feel better and avert any responsibility, then do what you gotta do...
