I failed the emissions and inspection for my car registration for my emergency brake not working correctly. I went into the Les Schwab in SLC UT on 54th south to get it fixed.

Originally they said they can drop the middle console
and tighten the cable for about $85. I thought that wasn't a problem, thats not too bad. About 45 mins later they came back and said I needed to have the left rear brake assembly replaced($55+labor). ~Ok not a problem~ I called a friend and went home.

About 3 hours later I received a call saying I now need a right rear brake assembly replaced (another $55+labor). Once again I have no problem with regular wear on a car. After waiting a total of 6 hours I went back to the emissions and inspection testing center to find out that the left tire WAS NOT STOPPING WHAT SO EVER.

I took my car back the same day. The guy that was working
on my car all day didn't believe me that they failed my
car. He said "Go to another testing center. They
don't know what they were doing & They ruined my sisters truck." After a long debate of what was said between the two, he jacked my car, pulled the E brake and found the brake didn't work. I waited for another hour while they looked into the problem. They told me that They would have to order the cable from the manufacturer.

Now this is the point of aggravation. (Not to the extent of $200 and over 7 hours of my day)

The next day the part was in the dealer and was ready to be installed. After it was installed they told me it was another $120. I asked why so much. They told me that the part was another $85+tax & labor.

I asked him what was the original $85 for? In my eyes they didn't fix the problem that I came in for. I came in with a
broken E brake and left with a broken E brake. He agreed with
me and said that he would take off the the labor. I asked
how much it would be // $30 off. I then pointed out that there was about a $50 difference in the original $85 (which in the first place NEVER WAS DONE or WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY)from the now work order of -$30. Why would I pay for services not done?

He stood there and shrugged his shoulders. Typical who gives a f*ck response. But then again why should he care he all ready has my money. After almost 2 days of fighting with this company I lost the fight and gave up. I can assure you they will NEVER see my business again.

Thanks for your time and be aware of what they are doing.

Next time, go to a mechanic

AUTHOR: Jon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2008

Those types of places that sell products are never a good place to go for mechanical work. It's evident from your story that they were just guessing at the problem. They told you that it was your fault for taking it to that emission place. When i have a problem with a car, i go to a place that is strictly about auto repair. Preferably, a place thats been there for a while. Not the dealer either, they just charge to much money. I dont want a mechanic/tire buster fixing my car. I guess its like going to a barbershop for a haircut, and expecting them to be able to fix baldness.
