It all started when I logged in to Monster looking for a job, I filled out the resume thing and did some more Mambo Jambo there, next thing I know, I'm getting a few good replies from Employers and one of them was LHIP.
We set up an appointment for an interview over the phone, they really didn't give out to much information, and well to be honest, I needed a job and they were interested.
Next day I walked into the lobby and took a seat, filled out a piece of paper that had some weird questions, like: do you enjoy working outside, how much do friends and family mean to you, please arrange this in a scale of importance in your life; job money family and other randoms. Desiree was answering phones, or at least looking like she was actually doing some kind of a job. I get called into the conference room, I sat down to talk to Danika, Larisa Hawley's Assistant manager, she asked very little about my personal life, I told her I had a daughter and a few things about my previous job experience, cuts me off short when I was trying to get more information about the type of job I was looking at, describes to me at the speed of light that I'm pretty much gonna own my own business in a period of a year or so, I was blown away! She then asked me if I could come the following morning at 9 for a second interview, have in mind my first interview only took 5 minutes if that, I said Yes! Sign me in!
The next day, I walked into that lobby again, dressed up in Office attire, had a small snack in my purse, they said it was gonna be a day long interview type of thing, so I brought some confy shoes as well and waited, all I could hear was people screaming in the back room, I got curious but didn't ask. After a few minutes of waiting, Danika introduces me to an older woman, who was going to conducting my second interview or what they call the Observation day.
We got on this woman's car and she takes out a note pad, legal size with a million things in it, I couldn't decipher what it said, because... not only was the woman trying to drive, read, eat and smoke at the same time. I was just too terrified and too worried about my life than to reading what the thing said.
We get to what she called our promotion site, it was at a Ralphs, it was scorching hot, she sets up a booth type of thing right next to the door and had me reading this HUGE binder, to which I saw some cut outs from magazines talking about the make up, the clients, the charities they work with, the type of marketing systems they use and at the corner of my eye I see this woman, approaching people saying that what she was doing was all in good faith for a charity, Operation Smile. I thought to myself... oh what a noble cause. Well the property manager comes out of no where and kicked us out of there, because we had no proper permits to be there, so we get in this woman's car AGAIN and she drives to a local shopping center, Fashion Valley, and we meet up with some other people who apparently worked with her as well, they break down the business opportunity and make it seem like Gods Gift to me! After observing and absorbing all this information I thought to myself maybe it is a good thing.
We got back to the office that afternoon, I was tired, hungry, thirsty, grumpy, for a final and 3rd interview, I'm sitting in the lobby waiting for my name to be called. The woman who had taken me out for the observation day brings me outside and shows me this piece of paper I had filled out full of red writing, but I mean HUGE red sharpy kind of writing and tells me, my manager is not sure if you're fit for the job blah blah blah, to which I later learned they call it fear factor, they pretty much terrorize you and make you feel like an ant and then build you back up just out of fear. They bring me in to the office and I have no freaking clue about what in the world these women are talking about, I have it in my mind that I didn't get the job, because I really didn't do anything, they really didn't explain to me what is it that they wanted from me, but out of the blue they tell me congratulations you got the job... I was like.. what? you serious? oh ok... I guess. By the way, the rate of people getting jobs here is super high, they hire EVERYONE, they only ones they don't hire is people who will pretty much tell them to f**k off right off the bat.
For the next few weeks, I went out and did the same exact thing the other 30 girls were doing, standing outside of some sort of business or establishment trying to sell this make up telling people that it was for a charity, which by the way.. only 5% went to the charity and 35% commission to me... and the make up was and it still is CRAP.
My weekly paychecks were from somewhere $250.00 to $350.00, after taxes it was way less, and not enough to pay a rent, buy food, gasoline, kids and so on.
After a few weeks of being here, I met this man called Scott Williams, the president of a different Marketing Firm that handles Home Depot's promotions and blah blah, they guy starts talking to me out of the blue and one day shows up to one of my promotions, makes me feel like s**t, makes me cry telling me I wasn't marketing material and so on, but still buys from me, gives me his phone number and invites out on a date with the excuse that he wanted to make up for it. I didn't really tell anyone because I didn't want rumors in the office, but I was curious as to why he's asking me out, he's a married man!
So we went out to PF changs, sat down had a drink and he starts talking about the business and keeping it light, so I tell the guy, dude.. cut the crap, you didn't invite me here to talk about business, we could have done that at the office, what do you want? I asked him if he was really that bored at home that he had to go out and chase skirts at work, and he says oh noooo hmmm he chokes, pays the bills and takes off, to never talked to me again. I told Larisa about this and she says... Ohh this is unacceptable this is not the first time it happens, but somehow it still happens...SHOCKER..
Some more weeks went by and I found myself almost homeless due to not being able to meet my monthly dues, so I talk to management and they offer me to let me stay in a paid apartment they have for out of town visitors, until I needed it. Little by little, I found myself neck deep into this company.
Weeks later I found myself crying in the bathroom, I wasn't making enough money and what management tells me is that I'm not putting enough effort into it, they had the nerve to bring out the fact I have a daughter to make me work harder than what I was already working, I mean I went into those offices at 6 am and didn't get out until 12 midnight, not to mention that this is from Monday to Saturday and sometimes Sundays too, have in mind this is commission and not hourly paid, they don't give out breaks like they're legally supposed to, we had girls fainting in promotions, from dehydration and exhaustion. If we were to take a break I'd have to be like 5 minutes and in those 5 minutes you had to pee and eat then run back out because you have to pay out of your own pocket if something goes missing.
As I was getting to really open my eyes, I saw that the only one getting all the money for my hard work was Larisa Hawley, not even the charity, she'd show up wearing tailored suits, channel bags, Jimmy Choo's shoes and such.
A month passed into me living in their apartment and I get called in the office, they tell me.. so you owe us $700.?? and something dollars for rent, I was shocked, when they offered this place to me they never said anything about paying rent, because not only did I not have my own room but I was sleeping on the floor, in the living with 3 other people. I told them to take small portions out of my checks because its all I could do.
On my last day there, which I didn't really know it was going to be my last day, I just completely flipped out, walked into the office and told them I quit, walked out didn't look back, the following Friday was payday for them so I went to pick up my last check, which was supposed to be somewhere close to $300.00 but to my surprise it was only $35.00 I didn't dispute anything, I was just glad I was out of there and didn't want to talk about it to anyone until now.
